Induction tmrw, cervix quite favourable: worth another sweep today?

Sorry to start another thread, feels v selfish but hoping that it could help someone else too as I can't find anything similar in the archives.

I am 41+5 with DC1 and due to be induced tomorrow -
not what I had hoped for but trying to be calm about that.
I have had 4 sweeps in the last ten days and am now 3cm dilated, soft mid cervix though cervix is not yet fully effaced to the paper-thinness it needs to be.
MWs have said probably a low dose of Prostin gel and/or ARM will get me into labour. However I had another sweep last night and they have offered me another today.

I have had cramps and on/off contractions for the oast 48 hours but am pretty tired having been up all night worrying and we live about an hour away from the hospital which is in central London. Is it worth going in for another sweep?

I am absolutely loathe to not give myself the final chance as it were but at the same time would it be better just to rest at home?

I would also have CTG done at the same time but as they checked baby's HR last night I don't think I need to go for this alone (though of course happily would).

It all depends how much you want to avoid induction really. It would be tempting to think the sweep would do nothing after 4 already, but you just never know. If you are exhausted it might just be best to rest now and save your energy for labour. If your cervix were favourable enough for a sweep to work then surely a dose of the gel will set labour off anyway?

Just my personal opinion, I have no medical background.

Either way you are going to meet your baby very soon. Good luck.

I'd go for the sweep personally, if nothing else it will make things a little easier tommorow, fwiw my dc2 I was induced and I had my waters broken as I was 3cm, it was by far the easiest delivery of my 4 babies. Good luck either way.

Yes YES have the sweep I hated induction and my 2nd labour (natural after a sweep) was so so so much easier and shorter.

Sorry didn't mean to put you off - your experience of induction may be different - it is just compared to 2nd labour my first was hard - but I didn't think it was that bad at the time. Good luck.

Thank you, everyone.

NAR4, well I am desperate to avoid the worst bit of induction, which seems to me the synto drip BUT as you so rightly say, if my cervix is as favourable as the MWs say then the gel/pessary will be enough. That was really helpful, thanks!

cluelessinchaos, that's great to hear, thank you.

inadreamworld, no problem, would rather hear the truth and at least I have had several sweeps which might have paved the way!

I stayed home and slept and baked instead. I figured that last night was my 4th sweep and having another today would be less than 12hours since that one and then less than 24 to induction, so it made sense (to me at least) that if I was going to have another today I at least give it time to work, or else it seemed a little pointless.

Having cold feet about tomorrow and wondering whether to delay one more day and have a sweep or not, but I'll keep this to myself!

Thanks again Smile
