Oblique/transverse at 34/35 weeks, still hope for VBAC or request ELCS?

I am 35 weeks pregnant tomorrow with DC2. DS was born by EMCS as he was in a difficult position (face presentation). I've been planning a VBAC with DC2 although I would not say I have much emotional attachment to the idea, more just fancy a quicker recovery and can't be arsed to fight for an elective. Anyway, on Weds I had a MW appt and baby was found to be oblique and OP with head towards my right hip and bum up near my left ribs. MW was very unconcerned, just said there's loads of time and head down was a good start. Previously the baby had been head down.

So today I had a growth scan, which the VBAC consultant had requested after a discussion I had with her about refusing forceps. I think she suggested the scan as a way of reassuring me that baby is unlikely to be huge. Anyway, babymis bang on average size wise, but has now moved to a transverse position with head slightly leaning toward breech. The sonographer said I should let the midwives know but as my next appt is at 36 weeks he said it could wait till then.

Does anyone have experience of transverse/oblique/breech babies? How likely is it to turn at this stage? I'm happy to have an ELCS if that's necessary, or go for a VBAC if the baby turns again soon but the not knowing is drivng me bonkers already! And the fact that this baby seems to be changing position a lot has me a bit freaked out. Having already been through an EMCS for a badly positioned baby I'm keen to avoid the trauma and effort of labour followed by EMCS. But don't want to be melodramatic and insist on an ELCS either. Grrr, why can't they just pop out!?

My DD was transverse for several weeks at this stage. By the time she was born at 42 weeks she was head down.

DS2 was head down for the whole pg until I went for the 40 wk check up where he was found to be transverse. Had a scan to double check. Told to have cs. Refused until they had tried to turn him. Went back the next day to have this done and strangely he had moved to head down. I hadn't felt a thing and he was born the next day at 41 weeks and wieghing 10 lbs.

DS was still transverse then. There's time to move but you can always prep for both, say you want a CS for presentation, request a positioning scan and if head down then call it off and go for VBAC.

Thanks :). Yes, Fraktion I think that's what I'll do. Just have to wait and see if baby has moved by my next appointment and then take it from there.

I am in discussions about ELCS for breech as well. My DD was breech and DC2 (due March) has been breech at most exams. I asked when an ELCS would take place if I need one this time and the consultant said that for normal breech it would be 39 weeks, and 38 for transverse lie. Apparently there is a greater risk of cord prolapse.

Still plenty of time to move, but a CS might be sooner than you think if baby remains transverse. (This is probably not a universal policy -- just what one consultant told me.)
