Breech births and ecv's

Has anyone ever had a breech baby Confused and delivered the natural way, and was your ecv's successful at (that's where they try to turn the baby around)
i had a breech baby last time, and no matter how much they tried to turn baby round, he kept falling back to sleep and wouldn't turn round,
the dr did ask me if i wanted a natural birth because women in her religen had them (they dr was indian) there was no way i felt safe delivering the baby that way, because she said that it was not guaranteed that a qualified midwife would be in the delivery suite when i came in to deliver, so i went for a elective c section, which terrified me because all my other 4 babies were natural births,

i would love to hear others experiences. Thanks

Hi!
Breech births, although not as common as head first births, used to still be considered "normal".
The trouble is not that they are so incredibly risky and unsafe, it's that most modern midwives and obgyn's have hardly any real experience or training in Breech birth, so if they are faced with one, they panic.
There is now much more research that has concluded that vaginal breech births post no more risks to women than elective C-sections, but every day hospital protocol and practice will take awhile to catch up.
There are risks associated with Breech Birth, but there are also risks associated with Caesarian births.
I had a friend who was diagnosed Breech, but she was booked under the One2One midwives in Liverpool, who were happy for her to give birth at home under their care, as they are gaining more and more experience with this. That situation is entirely different than being in a hospital with no one around who has any experience or confidence in a Breech Birth. That situation would understandably cause you to panic.
Ina May Gaskin, who speaks much about Breech Birth and has much experience, speaks about the importance of remaining open and relaxed during birth. She maintains that as long as a mother is supported with confidence, she will not "close up" in fear which could result in the baby getting stuck (which is the big fear when it comes to Breech)

If you go on youtube, and look for Breech Birth Stories, there are certainly a few that will come up. Everyone's story is unique.
Here is a link about home birth and breech...and even if you are not home birthing, the further links and information may be useful!

All the best!
