No braxton hicks - is this normal?

I am a couple of weeks away from D-Day and have not had any braxton hicks whatsoever. Nada. Zilch. Is this normal??

On 2 separate occasions -once about 2 weeks ago and the other a few days ago I had really bad back ache (have suffered from back pain all throughout pregnancy however this was a completely different type of back pain) and also period type cramping at the same time. Both were very painful. Do you think this is my body starting to prepare? The first time it happened I thought I was starting to go into labour as hadn't experienced anything like it throughout my pregnancy.

I'm starting to panic a little about going into labour which isn't unusual I guess. I am rubbish with pain - I act like I'm dying with the slightest pain/discomfort. Feel totally unprepared and fear the great unknown!!

Hi xX I didn;t have any BH with first pregnancy and ended up overdue and was induced. I am now 7 days overdue with baby no 2. But I am sure there will be plenty of women who have no BH and went into labour on time and naturally. Being induced wasn't too bad anyway but hoping it will happen naturally this time.

I also didn't have any BH and went overdue by 11 days. In fact I had no signs of labour whatsoever until the contractions started. My waters didn't even break beforehand and the midwives didn't notice them breaking either so no-one has any idea when they did!

I had no bh's with ds1 and went into labour on the due date (only time
We've been on time!)

Pg again and been having period style leg aches throughout which midwife suggested might be bh's. So your period pains might well be.

I wouldn't worry either way. Some have them and some don't.

And good luck!

I didn't have any with either of mine. Labour started on due date with DS. Wnet 12 days over with DD.

PickleSarnie · 16/01/2013 12:58

I've never had them.

DS1 was a day late. DS2 was two days early.

Beatrixpotty · 16/01/2013 15:44

Never had them either, both mine delivered at 39/40 by c-section

Has your belly ever gone rock hard? Not painful just firm to the touch? That's BH. Mine never hurt or felt like actual contractions and I didn't even know I was having them just thought the belly went hard when baby was in certain positions.

Thanks for your responses - made for interesting reading.

Feel reassured about the lack of BHs! And that it doesn't necessarily mean I will be late! Although I kind of have that feeling anyway as I'm sure most mums do with their first.

Have been getting the aches again today and this time across the tops of my legs too. Would love to go early! Smile.

I have noticed my belly being very hard feministefatale but I thought it was, as you say, the positions the baby has been in.

Don't think baby's head is even engaged yet.

I never had them. DS1 was 2 days late; DS2 4 days early.

Like poster above said, the belly going hard thing is BH. I never realised this either until a midwive felt my tummy and said "oh, that's a nice big BH!"

PointyDogs · 19/01/2013 22:26

No bh at all, no signs of labour other than a show a couple of days before the birth. I was 3cm dilated when I went for a sweep at 1wk overdue, but only started to have noticeable contractions 2 days later - DD was born 6 hours after the first contraction!

HermioneE · 19/01/2013 23:01

Would have thought I wasn't having any until the midwives commented. So you never know, you might be Smile
