or is everyone saying that to be kind?

I'm old and it took best part of two days last time.

Also..if I was a week late last time do you reckon I'm likely to be this time?

Not for me.

First labour, contractions started when I got up, had ds 11pm that night.

Second labour, took 3 days, due to back to back and just couldn't get into 'established' labour.

The 'pushing' bit was alot quicker second time though.

Frizbe · 20/04/2006 15:10

mine was an hour later, but I blame the pool for making the labour a bit slower (but a lot more pain free, so I loved it, even if it took a bit longer!)

mummy23 · 20/04/2006 23:31

Ds1 in labour 19 hours (6 days late) had to be put on drip as contractions where slowing down and membranes had ruptured!

Ds2 4hrs contractions then stopped for 7hrs then 3hrs later back at hospital and born within 30mins of arriving on ward! (i did walk back to the hospital, uphill, hoping contractions wouldn't stop again!!!Grin)

my second one was a lot quicker and seemed to be less painful as well, I didn't have an epidural second time around.
think I was more relaxed, knew what was going to happen.
good luck!

Alipiggie · 21/04/2006 03:16

Yes definitely
ds1 36 induced laboured 3hours pushed 15 mins
ds2 38 induced laboured 1hr 15 pushed 3 mins
Just used gas and air for both. Second one was a doddle, but then did know what to expect :)

SofiaAmes · 21/04/2006 05:52

Ds - 40 hours of labor followed by emergency cs
dd - 5.5 hours of labor ...vbac. Only 20 min. of pushing.

pacinofan · 21/04/2006 14:16

Certainly true for me. DD1 labour around 11 hours. DD2 labour 1hr 40 mins, made it to hospital with only 30 mins to spare. Birth experience with DD1 was really pretty good and I didn't think it could get much better, but in comparison DD2 was a breeze - contractions didn't seem anywhere near as painful, managed with a tens machine (kind of!) and gas and air. Great birth with minimum fuss!

Tinker · 21/04/2006 14:19

1st labour (from 1st contraction to baby) was 5 hours

2nd was (ditto) 2.5 hours.

Not planning a 3rd.

CatherineG · 22/04/2006 11:46

in general they are, but there are always exceptions. in my case

ds1: 37wks, 2.5hrs from waters, 2 hrs of contractions, 1 hr of pushing

ds2: 37wks, 25mins from waters, 15 mins of contractions, 2 push, 1st one I though - oh it's coming, reach down to see if I could feel anything and delivered him into my palm Shock

jamjam - htf did u manage to even get to hospital?? I was planning a homebirth but there was no way we would have been going anywhere once it started, no time for anyone to get to us either.

happypiglet · 23/04/2006 20:08

Yep in my case any way.

DS1 was a 22 hour labour 2.5 hours to push him out

DS2 was a four hour labour 7 mins and 4 pushes to get him out.

But DS2 was more intense pain wise but as I knew what to expect I coped with it better.

I guess the first 'oiled the way' for the 2nd.

Oh and be prepared I had a home birth with DS2 and wasn't going to call the midwife until I had been in labour for a bit but as my waters broke I had to call at the beginning and its a good job I did else I'd have been doing it alone. If I'd been having a hospital birth I think I would have left it too late to go in and then who knows what would have happened.

popsycalindisguise · 23/04/2006 20:11

yep
ds1 took about 4 hours from start to finish
ds2 took about 25 minutes from start to finish

Pernod · 23/04/2006 20:23

For me my 2nd dd was 50 mins & so I was expecting my 3rd to be even quicker! However she was 1hr 20 mins, still lovely and fast!!
My 1st was 4 hrs 25mins.

NotAnOtter · 23/04/2006 20:27

just had my fifth...
Midwives love to impart their knowledge to me and this is what two old-timers said

  1. Second babies 'easiest to part with'
  1. Odd numbers harder to deliver ..!

Both true for me!

morningpaper · 23/04/2006 20:33

two weeks late in both cases

dd1: 27 hours, 19 of them very painful
dd2: 24 hours but only 6 painful and less than 1 hour very painful

it'll be a BREEZE in comparison!!!
