Are boys generally heavier at birth than girls

I've had two girls and they were 6.7 and 6.1. Everyone's warning me that because I have a boy he will be bigger. Is this crap or is it true? I'm 35 + 4 and need to think about getting some blue baby grows rather than pink (although do have white so not desperately worried). Its just that if I were expecting a 6 pounder again I would be buying Tiny baby but if its gonna be bigger..... So if you have both boys and girls in your family were the boys bigger babies and by how much?

ds first baby 9lb 2oz
dd second baby 7lb 10oz

I had several growth scans that showed dd would be on the 98th centile for weight, with a large head and abdomen. Instead she was long and thin with what looks to me like a tiny head. Ds1 & ds2 both have large heads.

Bozza - not sure at all just limiting my washing pile. Ah so someone else who realises its the head size

Actually although DD has a biggish head it was an easy birth. But I am utterly convinced that it was DS's paving the way, as it were, that made it like that. He is one of those children who can't get tops over his head that kind of thing. Last year when we were in France we forgot DS's cap and he quite happily wore DH's cap (DH also big head) with no problems - he was 4 at the time.

Head size made a difference - DD's head circumfererence was 2cm less than DS Smile.

My dd was heaviest - weighed in at 10lbs compared to 8lb 6 for ds1 and 9lb 8 for ds2. All were overdue but she was only a few days whilst the boys were well over a week late.

Miaou · 20/04/2006 16:36

My ds was 8lb, same weight as dd2. (dd1 was 6lb13oz). Ds was my third child.

Nemo1977 · 20/04/2006 16:43

Ds was 9lb 1 15 days over
DD was 6lb 14 on due date.

You could be like my SIL and throw the averages way out.

Her ds - 7lb exactly, 1 week late.
Her dd - 10lb 4oz, 1 week early.
