Under Two Weeks To Go

Hi,

I am finally at the last stages and how quickly time is now flying....

I am due on the 2nd of May with my first baby.

We are due to attend a wedding this weekend and I am terrified of going into labour whilst away.

Husband is quite comfortable that if anything starts we will just get back into car (bags all inside and ready) and just drive back to London. We will be about an hour and half away.

Am I mad to consider going? Should we stay at home in case anything happens?

Any advice or thoughts would be more than welcome...

Thanks.

I would judge it on how you feel in the days before you go.

If you feel labour could be possible then don't go.

Also - make sure you know the way to the nearest hospital to the wedding!

my nan was teminally ill when i was due with dd3 , she lived hour and half away . i would go to see her every weekend as i knew it might be the lst time.

i just had my notes with me and some pampers bed pads under my seat, my bags in boot with car seat . just incase i had to have baby in another hospital and dp couldnt get home .

you will be fine . i always was confident baby would come ealry whilst here or there but they do tend to coma at night .

have the labour bag and hospital notes in the car and go for it. most first labours give you plenty of warning so if you did go into labour you probably would make it down, not sure that would be the most relaxing or comfortable labour though, you'll want to be able to move around. i'd head to the closest hosp personally.

don't worry though, chances are you'll go, come back and be on here posting in 3 weeks looking for tips on overdue babies and how to get them moving! Wink

I went to a birthday party when I was 39 weeks that was 3 hours away. I took my hosp bag and notes with me just in case (had been hoping to take my newborn!) but nothing happened for another 2 weeks anyway. Figured a hosital was a hospital at the end of the day.

I went to my BIL's wedding when I was a week overdue with dd (2 hours away). I took my hospital notes with me, but don't think I even took my bag. Most first labours take hours from first twinge to delivery so I knew I could cope with a drive home to my local hospital. It turned out I went another 2 weeks overdue after that so I was glad I hadn't missed the important wedding just in case.

Come and join us on the May Babies antenatal thread, there's quite a lot of us due at the same time as you!

Definitely go, if you feel up to it, but be prepared. I was so bored the last couple of weeks and would have loved to go to a wedding - all that fuss and nice food! An hour and a half is nothing in most normal labours - you could just be sitting at home feeling fidgety. At least it would be a distraction! I had contractions for 48 hours before my labour started properly and was bored stupid by the end!

I am having mine on 3rd may and I know it is worrying but apparently I've read it is normal at this stage to worry about being away from home and familiar surroundings.
I would go and like dh says just have everything with you. Good luck

I remember when i was pregs with ds1 i went to a football game (after having a show in the morning), and was having slight twinges whilst there, but luckily my waters held out until we got home (5 mins after walking through the door) and i was 6 days overdue.

I would advice see how you feel in the morning, keeping active is the best thing you can do to avoid going overdueShock, and once baby arrives, you will be arranging things around your lo!Smile

Take care of yourself and good luck with your labour, cant wait to read another great birth experience!Grin
