Did you have a succesful VBAC after a failed induction?

Iam due on the 4th of May , am hoping to have a VBAC.
DS was emergency caesarean after a failed induction. He was two weeks late. I was given three doses of prostin gel (didnt work at all) oxytocin drip, waters broken, epidural etc. I only managed to dilate to 3cm.
As much as I am hoping for VBAC, I am worried that my body just wont do what its meant too.

Has any one else had a similar experience and then gone to have a succesful VBAC?

Hi

I have had a vbac after a failed induction, but I did go 18 days overdue, maybe your body takes longer to make a baby.

Induction isn't recommended as there is added risk of rupture.

Just hang in there, chances are your body can do it, you need to trust it Wink.............

I had a late miscarriage in my last pregnancy, so am a bit nervous going too far over my due date. I am giving it a week at the moment.

ANy one else?

I agree with Lulu.... what about starting reflexology treatments ? Getting your body ready?
Can I ask (this may sound dumb) how a late miscarriage makes you decide that you can't wait to 42 weeks? I am presuming by late miscarriage you mean that your baby died before 24 weeks, the reasons for this are very likely to be quite different to a mature baby though....
For what it's worth I support VBAC a lot (usually they are from...... failed induction last time around !!!!).... failed inductions are quite common and yes many women have longer gestational ages.....

Cori - you sound like me, I've had 3 'normal' deliveries, all 2 weeks over and 2 induced - one slowly, one quickly. On my 4th recently I also had a failed induction 2 weeks overdue (8 doses of prostin, syntocin, waters broken etc - it took me 9 days to dilate to 3 cm but after 8 hrs on the drip I did dilate fully in another 3 hrs). The drs were adamant that I would deliver vaginally as I had before. Sadly ds3 still didn't want to come and after a failed ventouse I had a ECS due to his distress. I felt the same as you, my body was forced against its will (and the baby's). I think if you have the confidence and are comfortable to go over 2 weeks overdue, your body probably will deliver. I totally understand why you wouldn't want to though. If I ever had a 5th they wouldn't induce me again so would probably end up with a planned section which to be honest I would prefer after the fiasco last time. Good luck!

rach... 8 does of prostin... you're joking.... talk about forcing nature. I have supported 1 women and she had 7 doses of prostin it lead to a section too... at the time I already felt it was "absolutely" ridiculous.... am not even sure it's good practice actually!

Pupuce - I wish I was joking! The whole sorry tale has been posted previously (I had him in Jan). I had 7 doses (which is NICE recommended - after that they recommend that the consultant decides what to do...) over 7 days then I had a rest day. Had a further dose, no change in bishop score from 4. They booked me in for a planned section but when I turned up in theatre a senior registrar talked me into having another go. Seemed like a good idea... She broke my waters (only 1 cm - needed a lot of gas n air) and put me on a drip. No progress despite 8 contractions every 10 mins and crappy pain. After 8 hrs, yet another consultant suggested I give it one more go, turned my drip up to 64 mmol and I dilated from 3 to 10 in 3 hrs. However he never really descended adequately and the ventouse caput was above his left ear so he was obviously positioned badly. What pains me apart from his distress (heartrate fell to 75, agpar 5 and then 9), him being forcibly tube fed, incubated etc and my pain from the failed ventouse and ECS was the total lack of forward planning from any of the drs, nobody ever seemed to care past the end of their shift.

I despair Sad
Did you ever get to complain ?

Rach69 · 11/04/2006 19:52

I'm still working on it. TBH I feel very traumatised by the whole thing, I felt so dehumanised, my other kids and dp were very disturbed by it too. I am definitely going to complain officially but I felt I needed a little time to reflect and clarify the issues. My sister is a mw (in NZ) and says I must do it for my own peace of mind and for the sisterhood who follow me!

I am planning on starting on Acupuncture at 38 weeks. I might give reflexlology a go too.

The late miscarriage has cast a shadow over this entire pregnancy. I have been under an incredible amount of stress. I dont know if I can endure waiting til 42 weeks. I have c section booked for 41 weeks, but I might change my mind. I will see. I do have a supportive consultant.
