Please tell me your positive experiences of delivering a 9lb+ baby

I'm having a larger baby. Likely to be over 9lb. Always expected it as I was over 9lb but scan today showed it to be 8lb9 at 39+1 and as it's my first baby chances are I'll go over 40 weeks and baby will put on a fair bit more weight.

Am now panicking slightly about giving birth to such a big'un and could do with hearing some positive stories to stop any negative thoughts from taking hold. I know the worst thing I can do is panic as this will inhibit an easy labour.

10 lb 11 oz and the best experience of my life! Infact I can't wait to do it again!! Only pushed about 4 times n he was out! No stopping him from making his way into the world when he decided he was ready! Keep calm and trust your body, it's what it was designed for :D x

Also I've got four friends who've recently had the shits out up them by being predicted big babies. Not one was over 8lbs 4

DS2 was 9lb 6oz, 4 hours from start to finish (waters broke, DS arrived 4hrs later) G&A and no stitches, but a bit of a graze

he did get a bit stuck mind, and was back to back, but he was in such a hurry!

DD 9lb 1/2oz 6 hour labour G&A and not a stitch

am only 5 ft 3 and did lots of pireneal massage btw

DS was 8lb15oz so just under 9lb, but I am tiny. Lovely easy quick birth, laboured and almost delivered in the pool. Turned out to have a rigid perenium so had to have a small episiotomy but he popped out next to the pool two pushes later. The whole thing barely hurt at all. I know I was lucky but try not to worry.

4 biguns here 8lb 10 oz 9lb 5oz. 10lb 13 oz and 9lb 8oz all natural births with either no anelgesia or gas and air and no stiches. My 10lb 13ozer was my best birth I grin just thinking about what an awesome experiance it was. My 4th baby was a teeny 7lb 8oz and the worst out of the lot. He had a head the size of a beach ball. and was induced on drs advice at 37 weeks because he was going to be Huge and they worried I wouldnt be able to birth him. Sizing scans are obviously not reliable.

DS was 9lb 7oz.
I laboured on my own without pain relief, realised he wasn't planning to hang around. Got to the hospital at 2pm and he arrived by 2:10pm (I did have some gas and air at this stage). He did pop out (literally, popped as I tore) but the tear was fine and healed within days.

Much quicker and easier than 8lb+ DD.

DD was 9lb 5oz, no pain relief until pushing stage. Had water birth, 3 pushes and she was out. Had a few stitches, due to pushing stage being so quick! Left hospital couple of hours after birth as I was fine and DD feeding well. The birth had been so easy that I was gobsmacked when midwives told me her weight!

9lb 2oz, 8lb 13oz and 9lb 10oz. All reasonably short labours despite being OP each time (12,4 and 5hrs), all gas and air, no tears or stitches.

I liked have big babies - I felt a lot more confident holding them than with smaller, more delicate babies. They never felt breakable iyswim.

DD was 8lb9. Quick labour, no pain relief apart from TENS.
Couldn't sit down for weeks though .

Mine was 9 lbs. Complications, so no lovely birth here, but he was a lovely big baby and it was all worth it. This is what epidurals are for.

1st was 8lb. 2nd & 3rd were both over 9lb. Tens & G&A for all. Not quick but we were all okay.
As others have said growth scans can be =/- 1 lb

Birthing DC2 (9lb2.5) was much easier than DC1 (7lb13) - both on lovely lovely gas and air.

Had complications afterwards (rectal prolapse - nice), but doctor said that's not related to the size of the baby. The birth itself was very positive.

Ds2 (3rd dc) was 9lbs 5oz and was born in an hour and a half following a sweep. I won't lie, my first words after his birth were "thank god that's over" but his birth was good really, better than ds1 7lbs 12oz, who ripped me to shreds on exit . I still had stitches but not nearly so many as the first two dc and I still when I think of his gorgeous chubby little thighs.

Had a growth scan with DS - was predicted at 6lb. He was 10lb at delivery...
Was back to back, never in my pelvis, had EMCS and plenty of pain but it's still an amazing experience and I wouldn't have changed it. Whatever happens OP it will be worth it. Good luck

10lb3oz DD2 was also back to back all the way out, but I delivered her in about 4.5hours from first contraction with only a tens machine for pain relief. It was fine, not much different to well positioned 8lb4oz DD1.
Gravity helps more with big babies!

Oh yes, looking after a big baby was much easier than a weeny one - I'm terrified of holding friends 6lbers. Enormous DD2 was holding up her head at 2 hours old, and feeding was much easier because getting a good latch is much easier with a bigger mouth ime.

I'd definitely take an over 10lber over a 6lber any day!

My 3 were all big with my last being 11lb 5 oz! But labour was easy with ds3, 2 hours start to finish with only a tiny bit of gas and air . I found labouring upright and bouncing on the birthing ball helped . I delivered ds2 in pool and ds3 standing ( no time to fill pool).

Had a 9lb 9oz and a 10 lb 6oz (and a 8lb 3oz in between). The first was a little tricky but I was induced and got a bit panicky. The last was a breeze - one big push and out. There was no mistaking the head when it was crowning and the benefit of big babies is your body will instinctively push against it

I do wish I'd had one dainty newborn. My arm aches lugging dc3 (now 11mo) around

My friend got referred to a specialist as she was predicted a monster baby of 11lbs or something ridiculous. He turned out to be about 8lbs.

I was about 9lbs and an easier birth than my sister who was 6lbs. It depends on so many factors!

I'm 36weeks tomorrow n just Been to c midwife she's just told me that this baby (baby no 2) will prob b bigger than 9lb as my 1st woz 9lb I'm starting to worry as I just about managed to get him out :/ plus he woz 11days over due and I don't want to go over with this 1!! I'm due 13th dec n cud really do with going before or on this date!!! Does any1 know if I could request a sweep b4 my due date?? Poss at 37/38 weeks??!!
Please help I'm panicking xx

10lb 14 ds, natural delivery (VBAC) ith Tens machine then pool. I had a few stitches but was fine. I had him standing up. Labour was 4.5 hours. He was 2 weeks late btw. Dd was 9lb 10 a week early. Good luck!

Not quite 9lbs, DS2 was 8lb 11oz but his head was above the 96th centile and he popped out after 4 pushes and no pain relief other than TENS. Had two stitches put in after a lot of discussion from midwives crowded round my bits trying to determine if I needed it or not.

Although, I think I should start inventing 4th degree tears so that no one thinks I have a massive bucket!
