I had a scan at 35 weeks to check baby growing properly and it was discovered athat baby's growth had slowed down. if it continues to slow down, will be induced in a couple of weeks. They also said that one of baby's kidneys was swollen due to water rentention. I'm so worried - anyone else experienced either of these things?

I had a scan at 35 weeks to check on baby's growth rate and it was discovered that growth had slowed down. if it continues to slow down will be induced in a couple of weeks. Also they discovered a problem with one of baby's kidneys - it is swollen due to water retention - a condition called hydronephrosis - really worried about it. Anyone else had the same?

try not to worry too much.
i was borm with thsat condition, i also have congenitely deformed kidneys, but didnt discover any of these facts until i was 21!
what they will probably do is rwscan your babies kidneys at 6 weeks of age, they will measure, the areas of hydronephrosis and if they are under 10mmmm i think, then they dont worry, if over 10mm, they then refer to a renal specialist as this can be caused by reflux where the urine retracts back up the ureter, thus causing the retention in the kidneys, it would merely mean that your baby was more at risk of kidney infections and may be prescribed, phrophelactic anti bs, however, usually the areas of concern on the scan normally become smaller and not much of a concern by the time the baby is 6 weeks.
good luckSmile

Like spacecadet says, don't worry. When pregnant with ds1 (now 6) was told at my scan that he had retention in his left kidney. As soon as he was born was put on a daily dose of anti-biotic to prevent infection. He then went through various tests during his first year (as spacecadet described!). In the end they just said that the tube leading from his kidney to his bladder was narrower than normal and this is why his kidney was draining more slowly. He came off his anti-biotics when he was 1 and he has never had any infections or problems!

So really don't get yourself all worried. It may have even gone by the time babe arrives. Good luck!
