Slow healing episiotomy?

Jasnem · 29/03/2006 13:23

I gave birth 4weeks ago, and had an episiotomy. At day 5 it became infected and i took abs for a week. Midwife checked it and said it looked good.
It is not painful any more, although I am aware of it still, and it is not healed at one end. Should I see gp (when it was infeted hewas useless and told me to get m/w to check it)or wait a bit longer?

mine doesn't feel completely normal and seem sto flare up a bit if i'm under the weather. dd2 is 14months. think it is never like b4, 4wks isn't long. Keep getting abs if it seems inflamed and use lavender/tea tree oil in bath. I often had a quick shower down after going to the loo as the area is pron eto infection for obvious reasons...

Try the tea tree oil etc and give it a couple of weeks (if it's not too sore!). My tear this time round suddenly got better after having one sore patch. One day I realised I'd not been aware of it for a few days.

Thanks for the replies...I'll keep going with tea tree and lavender, and mention it at my 6 week check then.

I would recommend salt in the bath (or pour over warm salt water after going to the loo whilst still sitting there iyswim), as salt is a fantastic natural antiseptic.

My mw advised using that old fashioned bath oil called 'Badaedas'(?sp) - use the original one in the green bottle. I used it every night and felt so much better. OK so I know this isn't a very scientific reply but apparently it contains natural herbal remedies which, for some unknown reason are particulalry good at healing the post-episiotomy carnage down there. Apparently here 'up north' they used to give each mother a bottle of the stuff when they were discharged. You may hae already tried this, but if not- worth a go. If nothing else it smells lovely!

If I was at home, I use to jump quickly in the shower after each time I was going to the bathroom, and in the evening I use to put salt in the bath. It took me a good 8 weeks before it healed properly. If the midwife or a nurse look at it and says it looks good then don't worry... you might feel it is not fully healed yet but they know betterSmile. DD is now 8 months 1/2 and I have forgotten a long time ago about the episiotomy!!!Wish you and baby to be well...
