I am 39+4 and have been in agony with this pain in my pelvis, I haven't suffered with SPD before if thats what this is, but now it is coinciding with tightenings. Its my second baby so want to be sure of what it is before I call my midwife, anyone ever heard of pelvic pains being associated with labour...am starting with backache too...

I think it could be labour... sometimes it feels totally different from textbook or what you had the first time. I would go on the level of pain. If it hurts you enough to worry you, maybe worth ringing midwife just to ask. She'll be able to judge by how you describe it if you're being 'silly' or not.

Thanks I think I will give it another 10 minutes see if I can find any pattern first, sods law its getting a little less painful the more I move about.

How long have you had the pelvic pain...could it be head engaging?

zebra · 02/01/2004 13:28

My 2nd baby did that! Pain eased up as I moved around which is supposed to mean it's not labour... but it waaaaas!!! (she says in her best narrator to Thomas the TE voice...) How exciting! :-)

Erm about 2 hours or so, far far worse when I walk or sit, stand etc... don't remember anything like this last time, although I was induced.. How long does it take for head to engage and does it hurt? Feel like a novice again

Just re-read my posts must sound crazy..it does get better when I move about, but when I first stand gets very painful, just got stuck on the floor, not pretty being this big.

If it is the head engaging then the baby may be pressing on a nerve or something when you move in a certain way, if that makes sense. With second babies the head tends to engage sooner before labour than with a first baby, which is around 4 weeks, I think. Whats the backache like? Why were you induced last time?

You could be on your way

zebra · 02/01/2004 13:44

I had the experience & anecdotally I think it's true that if you have a high interventions/pain relief first birth, you honestly don't recognise anything you should do the 2nd time around! So you're right to feel like a novice.

toyahsam · 02/01/2004 13:55

The backache is just a dull ache, generally all the time. I was induced last time because I went over... I just haven't got a clue whether this is it or not, I have a agonising pain and think yep definately, then it goes... so if it is the head engaging does that mean things should happen fairly soon...don't fancy another induction, want everything as natural as poss this time around.

It's just that some labours start with dull back ache; but not all back aches are dull labours. Honestly think you'd be better off finding something to distract yourself with for a few hours and see how you feel after that. Don't want to burn yourself out getting excited over what may be nothing! If it's real, it will progress, and it takes time to figure out if it's progressing. If it's not real you'll suddenly realise that the dull ache has nearly or entirely gone.

Yeah will do zebra, getting tired anyway and ds has just gone down for a nap, think I will join him. Got enough sleepness days/nights ahead.

toyahsam · 02/01/2004 22:47

Still having pains, although moved from pelvic area to lower back..going to go to bed and hopefully be awoken later.. pretty sure it is the actual thing this time, but still a long time apart. Thanks for all your messages..will keep you updated.
