Hi all - I'm in early labour and just realised I'm hopelessly under prepared. I didn't do NCT or anything like that.every contraction I'm trying to breathe in and out deeply but as each one happens it's so hard to remember it'll pass soon if you know what I been.

Any tips on positive thinking? How to mentally handle the contractions? I can't believe I'm even giving birth doesn't feel real ..

how are you getting on ThreeWheels?

ThreeWheelsGood · 22/10/2012 08:43

Morning. Still the same, rested in bed overnight but have been having contractions constantly (8-6 mins apart). Just called midwife who confirmed my suspicions that if I went in now they'd probably examine me and send me home. Never realised it'd take this long, so exhausting.

glad you have had some rest, and excellent news that contractions are getting closer together too.
It is exhausting, absolutely. If you can get any more rest, try to. The first stage of labour is the longest- you are getting closer to that baby every minute, every contraction.
There are some pressure points that can help with pain and intensity here:

and there is a pressure point that is helpful if you are feeling overwhelmed or panicky here (point three- get him to do it while you are up on your knees, leaning forward on a chair or something):

Hi ThreeWheels, just think, you are the closest you have ever been to meeting your wee bundle. Am so excited for you!!! We still have at least three weeks to go. How are you getting on with the advice? What is working best for you?

Any news? Hope it's going well ?

Any news?

Hurrah! thank you so much for the tips in this thread. The reason for slow labour was that baby was back to back - only discovered when in established labour. Absolutely shattered but delivered her by water birth just before midnight last night.

Amazing, well done, what a fantastically long labour! I bet you are so proud to have got your water birth, huge congratulations! Flowers

ThreeWheelsGood · 25/10/2012 12:34

Thank you everyone! The midwife thought she must have changed position once I'd got in the water, gave me a chance to change positions. I'll have to write up my birth story somewhere.
