If you had a planned section, what time was your baby born?

I'm booked in for an elcs on Friday...twins and both are breech. My information pack says approx 3 sections are planned for the morning but obviously this can change if they have any emergencies.

I was just trying imagine that time my babies might be born.

I had twins, went in first thing and babies weren't born until 6pm, due to emergencies. I wasn't fussed about food so much, but very thirsty, so I kept drinking anyway. Not recommended, but no way I was going nearly 24 hours without water!

ripsishere · 02/10/2012 08:04

I thin you're allowed water almost until the action starts.
I went into hospital the night before, was NBM from 8pm, went to theatre at 8 the next morning, had a row with the anesthetist Hmm and DD was apparently born at 8.51.
DH was waiting outside and finally saw her around 10.30. he thought one of us had died. I think they were vaccinating her, washing her, cutting her nails etc.
Because of the disagreement with the putter to sleeper, I met her around 18.30 that evening.
Enjoy the feeling of being able to breathe again.

I've had two ELCS and had both of them befor 9am, quite lucky really as have always been first in the list. Was eating by lunch time with the first, later with the second as had complications.

marshmallowpies · 02/10/2012 09:07

I was told I could have a drink of water at 6am when I got up, just no food. I did plan to set my alarm for 2am to have 'breakfast' but couldn't face getting up at that time!

I'd had to fast a lot longer 2 weeks before when I'd had an ECV (where they try to manually move the baby) - you have to fast in case the process ends in an emergency section, so the actual fasting on the day of the ELCS was not nearly so bad.

WhatSheSaid · 02/10/2012 09:11

11.21am, I was the second elective section of the day, they were in a hurry to stitch me up afterwards so they could go for lunch :)

Mintyy · 02/10/2012 09:13

11am. I think I was one of the first of the day. It certainly didn't feel like a horribly long wait.

mawbroon · 02/10/2012 09:24

Mine was 11.15am. Second CS of the day.

anniebunny · 02/10/2012 09:27

Got to the hospital at 7.30am, was first on the planned list. Hadn't eaten since the night before, only had a sip of water at 6am. Hopsital then had to do SEVEN emergency c sec so eventually went to theatre at 4.30pm, then had to wait in the theatre for ages while they decided whether or not to do a c sec on another lady. DD born at 6.18pm. My sister arrived at the hospital at 8pm convinced that DD and I were both dead as she'd not had a phone call!

I'm not sure how many of the other planned sections got done that evening. It wasn't ideal that late as I'd missed a whole day of meals (was put on a drip on the ward at lunchtime as was getting dehydrated) and the visiting times weren't until 3pm the next day so my older two didn't meet their sister on the day she arrived as I'd have liked. I hope that cases like mine are unusual!

Good luck!

shelley72 · 02/10/2012 09:34

Was second section of day, born just as jeremy vine was starting (odd the things you remember) so midday. glad I wasn't due first as it was interrupted by a fire alarm! Was allowed to eat and drink before hand, anaesthetist said she didn't believe in starving pregnant women Grin

WhatSheSaid · 02/10/2012 09:34

Oh, in case you haven't already thought of it, take some magazines to read, takes your mind off the waiting. I was quite nervous but really, the day consisted of, read magazines, chat, change into hospital gown, go into theatre, have epidural, 10 mins later be presented with lovely new baby. It was fab :)

Celestia · 02/10/2012 09:39

Thanks ladies, hopefully they'll be here for lunch time ish then. I hope so as I'll be starving! Got to fast from midnight and only allowed sips of water until 6am.

I was nil by mouth from midnight, had to get to the hospital for 8 am.... then they had a lot of emergencies in theatre and I didn't go in til about 6pm.

I was VERY thirsty and hungry by then - I actually snuck a few sips of tea and had a bite of biscuit - I get low blood sugar and was feeling grim. They were about to put me on a drip to hydrate me as I'd been without water for so long.

The hardest thing about the wait was them saying 'yes, you're up next... you're definitely up next... yeah, it'll be ithe next hour....' all the time from 9 onewards. I didn't have any adrenaline left by the time I went in!

marshmallowpies · 02/10/2012 15:50

Goodness, reading all these posts I realise how lucky I was to get the first section of the day and not get put back for any emergency sections. I was the only planned section that day so all the other post-CS mums who joined me on the ward that day were emergency.

Benaberry · 03/10/2012 19:00

I was lucky, only elcs on list for ds2, and no emergencies at the time, so got to hospital at 7am, called to theatre bang on 9am, and ds2 arrived at 9.40 (had a bit of an issue siting the spinal, hence slight delay)

PoppyAmex · 03/10/2012 21:55

I was first (and only) that morning in theatre and went in at 09:00am but there were huge problems with the anaesthetic so DD wasn't born until 11:04am.

Good luck with your twins OP! Smile

kid · 04/10/2012 22:55

I had to be in hospital by 7am and I was first on the list but an emergency came in before me so I was put back. DS was born at 10am. I might have gone through a bit earlier had I not caused a bit of a scare by fainting!

Good luck with the birth of your twins.

Celestia · 10/10/2012 07:48

Well, they arrived at 12.56 and 12.57 Grin.

Luckily at our hospital, elcs are done in a separate theatre to emcs so we didn't get a delay due to any emergencies. There were 2other couples and we went last because it was twins. Just thankful we weren't waiting all day!

MolotovBomb · 12/10/2012 12:27

I had no booked time, but had to be at the hospital at 8am.

My beautiful DD2 was born at 10:51 on 19th April 2012. No glitches; everything went perfectly ... One of the best days of my life and a wonderful childbirth experience.

You've probably had your babies by now! How exciting!
