Trying to decide on elective C section due to large baby

Hi,

I'm 34 weeks with dc3. Dc1 was on the 95th centile each time they measured my bump and arrived 40+2 (waters leaked was induced) weighing 9lb15. Threatened forceps, shoulder dyspraxia, episiotomy..bladder prolapse afterwards.

Dc2 was just above the top line of curve each time they measured bump. He arrived at 40+8 (self induced with castor oil) weighing 10lb 6.
Slight tear. Bad prolapse and continual backache since.

This baby is measuring a month ahead of dates. Tracking miles above the top curve. If it continues at this gradient it is looking like 12/12.5 lbs on due date.

I'm terrified of baby getting stuck, and of being destroyed afterwards. My consultant has offered me a section. Wwyd?

i'd say it is relative to the mothers build.

From the referral for a glucose tolerance test, the consider a large baby anything over 9lb 14oz I think. From a delivery point of view the mothers build/ pelvis size comes in to play.

I'm 5'6 and average size 12 and dh only 5'10 but yet we have these huge babies Confused

I was told anything over 9lb is big.

In addition to another thread I'm going to print this thread off and ram it under my very unsympathetic consultant! First baby born at 9lbs8oz by emergency c/s and dr said as he hauled her out "mrs M you would never have delivered this baby naturally" (in a German accent) and this new consultant has dismissed this as "boll@x". He is pushing me for VBAC for this pregnancy when I know this baby is going to be a whopper!!!

Fish, go for c/s. motherhood is for the rest of your life and it shouldn't be defined by your ability or not to laugh at a joke without peeing your pants!

MJ you can request to see a different consultant you know..

I was completely dismissed by one a 16 weeks, told me because I had the other two with no epidural I was well able for it Hmm

MJ I agree, stand your ground. Show them this thread. If they don't listen request another consultant. I had the same problem as you. Ds1 was emcs and surgeon said I would never got him out naturally. Consultant I saw when pregnant with ds2 pushed and argued against my wishes for an elcs. She had me in tears for over an hour while I begged for one. It was only when I threatened to complain that she agreed to my elcs. My friends Sil had a natural birth with her 2nd dd who was predicted large. She was over 10lb. She is now waiting to have reconstructive surgery when she's FINISHED having children for prolapsed vagina and rectum. She had 18 stitches internally and externally and is partially urine incontinent.

It makes me so mad when the mothers health after the birth is seen as unimportant.
