Anyone had a quick birth after long labours previously?

Just that really.

Ds1 was 26 hours start to finish
Ds2 was 32 hours start to finish

33 weeks pg with ds3 and hoping for a quick labour!!

Any thoughts or evidence about whether I might have a long/short labour?

My first labour was very slow - 2 days of slow labour with CX every 20 mins and then 10 hours active

Second labour was 7 hours 15 mins from
First CX to DD arriving

So a big difference

cutegorilla · 15/09/2012 21:02

First 20+ hours ended in c/s, 2nd 2.5 hrs from first twinge to delivery (not recommended, too fast), 3rd 4.5 hrs from first leak of waters to delivery (perfect). Good luck!

Startailoforangeandgold · 15/09/2012 21:05

DD1 -26hrs lots of tea drank in very dull hospital cafe.

DD2-7hrs
Only problem was DD2 forgot to leave gaps between contractions (HB) tea sat on coffee table going cold.

MrClaypole · 15/09/2012 21:06

From first twinge to delivery:

DS1 - 12 hours

DS2 - 1 hour 7 minutes (sounds great but not recommended: too intense, no time for drugs and DS2 ended up in NICU as a result)

ds1 36 hours. exhausting.
dd2 2h 3m. not recommended. was bloody lucky i was at hospital when it began. baby was in shock and i had a massive bleed.
midwife couldn't explain why the births were so different.

MrsLovely · 15/09/2012 21:22

First one was 24 hours and quite unpleasant.

No 2 was 1hour 20 from first contraction to birth.

No 3 was 2 hrs 30. Both were surprising but in a good way. I was offered counselling after both of these because they were so quick, but to be honest I was quite happy about it.

BlameItOnTheBogey · 16/09/2012 06:56

36 hours for number 1. Pretty hideous - 3 and a quarter hours just for second stage.

No 2 was here in 1 hour and 15 mins from start to finish. I went into shock when she was born... On reflection, I felt much more traumatized by the second birth.

Good luck.

happynappies · 17/09/2012 14:42

32 hours for first, 28 for second, then 4 hours for third. Did find quick labour quite traumatic, particularly v. stressful car journey 30 minutes to hospital just before she was born. Middle labour was my preferred one. Hoping to repeat it before Sunday, when #4 is due to be induced!! Good luck!

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 17/09/2012 20:48

I've had 2 long ones happy and I'm really hoping for a quick one this time.

The pain I can just about cope with, it's the exhaustion that does me in.

Very slow induction with dd contractions not going anywhere but once induction started you can't go home, first peasant on tue, had dd on fri!

Everyone said will be quicker second time your body has done it before, induced about 4pm with gel stuff, fei g it about 4.30pm was 4cm at 6pm, found pushi g on induction ward at 7.20pm dz shot out just after getting to labour ward at 7.40pm!! Managed to get some gas and air for my stitches!!

Hopi g I don't have induction this time!!

ImPeppaPigOink · 18/09/2012 09:27

I've had 2 labours lasting 3 days each (went into labour on Due Date both babies weighed the same, the same length and head circumference, both Girls)

I'm hoping this labour is quicker as I can't be doing with another long labour so I'm pleased people have had a long labour then a quicker one.

hattifattner · 18/09/2012 09:31

DC1: 20+ HOURS
dc2: 3.5 Hours - induced the night before, waters went in the morning, he arrived quickly.
dc3: tried induction: nothing. SO the broke membranes. 1H 45mins later he was there. EVen the midwife was a little surprised and barely had time to get her gloves on.

HipHopOpotomus · 18/09/2012 09:37

DD1 36 hours start to finish - tiring, long & full on.
DD2 about 5 hours all in - hard & fast.
Both challenging in their own ways, both OK too.

44 hours of 5 minutes apart contractions (or shorter) - exhausting! No 1

3 hours total - number 2 - easy peasy and a water birth at the end, just really hard and fast contractions!

6 hours - twins - no 3/4 - supposedly induced at 37 weeks but all they did was have a quick look and off I went! Not hard, really.

First was the worst by a long, long way!

Oh and they were at year 0, year 2 and year 5. IYKWIM. HTH.

Hannah7 · 18/09/2012 10:26

My first was an exhausting 37.5hrs with an episiotomy, second was 12hrs with only a couple of stitches (did have a sweep after 7hrs in labour as was still only 1cm at that point, thought oh no not another long one but after the sweep was only another 5hrs so it helped!) Good luck!

sleepingbunnies · 18/09/2012 10:52

First DD 28 hrs
Second DD 4 hours

DC1 3 days of contractions, ARM, drip, ventouse.

DC2 eating my dinner to holding a baby inside 20mins. unplanned home birth. mw who came to deal with the placenta estimated that I'd been in labour for about 2 hours but I really had no idea and certainly didn't expect to be having a baby that day. I'd had some mild pains but they were more than 15 mins apart, irregular and no more painful than braxton hicks. If I had phoned delivery I would have been told I wasn't in labour. I did go into shock afterwards but once I was over that I was on a high for weeks. Still feels amazing.

DC3 2 1/2 hours. Phoned mw when feeling unfomfortable as instructed to after last time. Expected to be told it was nothing and apologised for being paranoid. I was 7cm. Grin

Thanks for everyone's replies.

You really can't judge how it's going to go can you? Despite previous experience.

DC1 was a long back to back labour, with help, that lasted 36hrs!

My twins were both born naturally within 20mins of the first contraction. Luckily I was in hospital for a routine check up when it happened. The first twin came out when it was just me and one midwife in the room, not meant to happen with normal births, let alone multiple!! The second twin came out 9mins later but by that time it seems the entire labour ward was in the room with us, panicking by being caught unawares!

As there was a 9min difference between the two it meant that the first one was born only 11mins after my first contraction! Thank goodness I was in hospital already as birthing twins at home was not my idea of fun! As it was, luckily, I really enjoyed the birth as I expected it to be so medical but twin 1 was born into a quiet, calm room with a very level headed MW! Twin 2 was born into chaos but it was still an easy birth and both DC were/are perfect.
