Had a show.. Is it likely to be soon?

I'm 39+5 with DC2. I went at 38 weeks with DD1 so feel overdue!
I've been having strong BH's/ contractions for about a week now but very infrequent and irregular. This morning I've had a bloody (old brown) show.

As my waters went with DD1 followed by a classic, progressive labour I'm not sure what a show could mean! Am I still in for days/ weeks/ induction? Or is it likely that I'm going to go naturally now?

I didn't seemingly have a show with DS. Had one with DD about a week before she was born.

MirandaWest · 14/09/2012 14:27

DS was born at 38+3 and DD at 40+4 so I felt very overdue with her :) hopefully your DC2 will be here soon :)

I hope it's not another week! Can I have a bath? I know I was advised not to after my waters went but presumably it's ok to bathe after a show?

Sorry, I am no help at all either, both of mine were a week too!

WhispersOfWickedness · 14/09/2012 15:33

Definitely ok to bathe as normal, I would have been a bit pongy by the time I went into labour otherwise Grin

HaggisNeepsTatties · 14/09/2012 19:24

It's also ok to have a bath after your waters go...just without any bubble bath etc

EMS23 · 14/09/2012 19:42

Agreed Haggis, I did have a bath once in labour and after having been examined by the midwife, I got to 7cm in my bath!

But I think they advise not to in the interim, so if your waters go but labour hasn't started.

Well, my show seems to be continuing and I'm feeling very back achy but I think that's wishful thinking more than anything!

Just to give you hope, I went from show to baby in 24 hours!

Good luck

EMS23 · 14/09/2012 23:25

In the bath with contractions every 5 minutes so looks like I might be in the show to baby sooner than later camp!

Unless its destined to be a stop start labour and this goes on and on for days. Oh I hope not!!

EXciting!!
Bath fine, you can labour in water after all.
Are you planning to go to hospital?

lljkk · 14/09/2012 23:30

I must Go.To.Bed but I will check on You in morning.

EMS23 · 14/09/2012 23:34

Yes, I'm about an 40 mins from hospital with 2 kids that need to be dropped off on the way so am trying to be sensible about when to get going.

DD is only 22 months old and is going with DSS8 to his mums (my DH's ex) so on the one hand I don't want to make a dash in the middle of the night if I don't need to but we have got a long drive to hospital and am worrying about it being my 2nd so could be quick etc..
Labour ward happy for me to rock up when I want but I'm loathe to go before I really need to.

Am excited and bloody terrified!!!

I lied, still here :). Are ctx toe-curling yet?

EMS23 · 14/09/2012 23:39

No, much sharper than early ctx with my DD were but definitely coping fine for now.
What I really need is a crystal ball to work out when the best time to go is!!

I also want an epidural (horrible first labour) so don't want to get there too late to get one!! I know that's selfish.

lljkk · 14/09/2012 23:45

It's your body! Nothing selfish about disliking pain.

I think from what you say better to go sooner, get the kids dropped off while you can still calmly give them a cheery hug. I wonder if hospital cafe stays open all night? You could go there initially, then mosey along to labour ward when you felt like things were actually happening.

Else Epidurals work best if you get them early, and you aren't going to sleep again tonight, are you?

I AM REALLY GOING TO BED NOW (shouting at me, not you). Looking forward to your update tomorrow.

EMS23 · 15/09/2012 08:11

Baby arrived at 03:52! Got the kids to DH's ex at 1.40am so good timing in the end as was in the hospital less than 2 hours before she was out!

Congratulations!

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

You didn't have a huge amount of time to spare, did you?!

lljkk · 15/09/2012 09:17

I had a feeling it was going to go like that, esp. with 3rd.
Did you even get the epidural, I expect not?
Congratulations :)

EMS23 · 15/09/2012 09:23

No time for the epidural, went from 4cm to pushing in an hour but then the placenta wouldn't come out so ended up with spinal block in theatre for manual removal... Oh the irony!!!

How wonderful, congrats you pro!!

WhispersOfWickedness · 15/09/2012 14:36

Yay, well done, congratulations! I was going to say not to hang about for a second baby, mine was 2.5 hours from nothing to out, but you beat me to it Grin
