Does anyone have an experience of what happens to you if your baby is taken to the neonatal unit, or similar? Are you expected to go in the labour ward with all the mums and babies, even though you are without yours? Or is there a different room?

I was on the post natal ward (had just arrived from labour ward) when DS was taken to NICU. I cried the whole night and they moved me to a private room the next day. I was very grateful as we were apart for several days and I wasn't well enough to move :(

Thanks again all. And thanks for the support, its appreciated.

Yes I can imagine there's pros and cons to both situations. I really don't want to be in hospital in the first place, so I imagine that skews my perspective somewhat. Fingers crossed it'll be a short stay for both of us anyway.
