Can you really not have a bath after waters go?

38wks with DC2 and am hoping to spend a bit of time at home before going in this time. Would love to be able to sit in the bath for a bit as this has helped massively during my pregnancy this time.

Have heard you shouldnt if your waters have gone though - is this really true?

My waters went first with DC1 with cx starting straight away. I was straight in the birthing pool when I got to hosp so the whole no bath thing never made sense to me!!

i was encouraged to go in the bath after mine had gone with dd.... not sure on this basis

You're fine using the bath in your own home - if you are in hospital you'd be better off sticking to using a shower. Or getting in the birthing pool (cleaned to much higher standards than the standard baths)

agreed. absolutely fine to use the bath in your own home - just no smellies...i.e. bubble bath / oils etc.

Are you planning on an optional home birth? Those second tots can come pretty quickly... Bath sounds great but what you think are 'mild' contractions can quickly increase - and waters may go very shortly before birth rather than a while before voice of experience

I had a bath - was lovely, but did just slow everything right down.

mmmm that did cross my mind Ivana !!!! Not planning on a home birth.....

First labour was 11 hours from first sign to birth.... do you think it is too risky then?

Can only say that your body knows what it's doing this time (in theory) things are, er, less narrow and second births tend to be quicker. If you stay mobile and search out your own positions, there is every chance of things going more quickly than you might expect. Probably just as much chance of going overdue and needing inducement ?! I have no idea of the stats, just thought Id mention :) Personally I would, when you are regularly contracting but still mild pain-wise, get your ass to hospital and ask for a pool or bath there.
