Recovery post EMCS - TMI

Sorry - TMI question

After my EMCS on Tuesday night I was expecting constipation, in fact, I focused on high fibre foods for a couple of days to try and avoid it.

However, now that bowel movements have restarted I am suffering from diarrhea instead. It is very uncomfortable.. Most of the time our lovely LO is providing enough distraction, but I hate having to rush off with cramps.

With the amount of medication I am on in any case post surgery I would like to try and avoid adding more pills to the mix, but can anyone suggest any natural remedies to calm my stomach?

Oh poor you, it sounds really awful...congratulations for your little baby!

Plain, overdone risotto rice, with a bit of salt is good for an upset tummy. It looks like white mud but really helps. No dairy, no juice, no fruit. Toast is good too but no butter.

Have you asked your midwife?

Charcoal tablets. Excellent for loose bowels - ask the chemist, it is N old fashioned remedy but you can still get it. Presumably a kaolin mix would also be fine - is natural remedy, and you can get an infant version of it too.

Thanks so much for the tips. Midwife is coming tomorrow so will ask her too if it does not get better. I had been eating the wrong things - somehow got it into my head that milk was good but have scrapped that now. Toast for a (late) dinner.

Hope today was much better for you Smile

Thank you, really lovely of you to check.

Today has been a bit better - stuck to toast and a bit of yoghurt which has really helped.

The midwife never came Sad, but I did phone the hospital who advised to stop taking one of the prescription painkillers which can have bad side effects. Reassuringly (in case anyone else ever reads this thread) they assured me the lack of nutritious food won't get in the way of breast feeding at all, as long as I stay hydrated.

Thanks ahainv

Are you on strong pain killers ? Could be a side effect of them. Hope it clears up soon.

Thanks. Yes, it seems the painkillers were to blame in the end. Not the paracetamol but a strong one prescribed by the hospital which was also anti-inflammatory. Have been advised to stop that one and since then have felt better. Even considering some potato for dinner Smile
