One Born Every Minute episodes

Hello,

In an attempt to protect myself, I have spent my pregnancy (currently 31 weeks) refusing to listen to anyone's horror stories or watch OBEM or similar. I am maintaining a very positive and open-minded attitude towards labour and am practising hypnobirthing.
Are there any episodes of OBEM on 4OD that anyone can recommend which contain a 'positive' birth story where the mother is able to move around and is relatively relaxed? I realise that a lovely relaxing short labour won't necessarily make the most exciting evening of Channel 4 Programming, but was wondering if there is one in there somewhere.

Thanks!

Theres one from the latest series, water birth, hypnobirth (I think), peaceful and calm and quiet... let me see if I can find it.

Yep, the water birth with the young first time mum in the last one was magical, she was so calm and quiet, absolutely beautiful to watch.

This one not hypnobirth but waterbirth and very very nice.

i don't tend to wach OBEM as it infuriates me a lot of episodes. however this waterbirth (which is what i think people are referring too) was truly beautiful and really got me teary.

this lady stated in the episode that she didn't do any prep classes as she didnt want to know about pain relief as she didnt want to go in with the attitude of pain. it really worked for her, and the birth looked lovely and i wish OBEM showed more like it!

OBEM wasn't on when I had DS but I absolutely would have watched it if it had been. I watched a lot of baby/childbirth real life shows like Baby Story, Bringing Home Baby and Baby Tales as I found them really good in terms of preparation. I knew exactly what could happen, the different interventions that might be needed, how things could change suddenly during labour and how it all ended up ok even if it wasn't what you had in mind.

To me, this was invaluable as it meant I really could take a 'go with the flow' attitude and I didn't feel scared when the MWs were using technical terms amongst themselves as I knew what they meant. I also realised how many different variations of techniques and occurrences were 'normal' during labour as it really is the case that every birth is different.

I know this is the exact opposite approach to the one you're taking, but I think there is a lot to be said for knowing all the different ways things can go, as it will make you feel less anxious and scared than having one set way in mind in case things deviate.

Good luck

Thanks ladies. I have read about interventions and possible complications, but in terms of watching videos, I just don't think any of us need to see a woman lying on her back screaming (I realise that births can be like this, but we've all seen that kind of birth- I want to see the calm kind!)
