A debrief?

Are they only for those who have had traumatic births or can they be used to get answers to questions one may have about the delivery (which could influence decisions about subsequent deliveries IYSWIM). Or is there another route/process I don't know about?

I am very happy with the care I received, I just want to know a bit more about what happened and how likely it is to happen again (had section after trying for vbac) should I want to have another child.

Thanks.

I just had one. I'm currently expecting no.2, ds1 was an emcs so I am trying to decide wether to have an elective cs or vbac. It was useful but I'm still undecided! Op, Are you in a similar situation?

Sorry I reread your post and I see you are not currently pregnant. I suppose it depends on the policies of the hospital where you are as to whether you'd get a debrief prior to becoming pregnant. No harm in asking for one anyway.

las-I had my ds2 5 wks ago Smile , my 2nd section, vbac was unsuccessful I think due to the fact that he was larger in size than I was able to birth. I want to know if this was definately the case and if it is likely to happen again should I decide to have another child in the future, or if there was a bit more to it.

I had your dilema and opened a thread on MN as well as looking at a lot of older threads of similar content which I found helpful. However feel free to pm me if you want to ask me anything. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Congrats and thank you. I will probably start swatting up on the threads soon. As your birth is pretty recent you should be able to request a debrief, I think. I did find it useful in that I can now see why the birth went the way it did, a combination of induction and baby being back to back resulted in a chain of events etc etc. It was interesting hearing all the details as I can only recall a wall of pain!

Can you talk to your old midwife. I'm due in November and am deciding between a vbac and elcs, I opted in to see a consultant at my hospital who had my labour and birth notes from ds1 and we went through them together. It was very useful. Can you request that. I think that after 2 cs your third child needs to be a cs, but it's definitely worth confirming that with a health professional.

las and The, given my particular experiences I think if I were to have another child I would decide vbac or elcs on the basis of his /her predicted weight. Even though growth scans are far from always accurate, they have been in my case.

Neither the two trials of labour or the sections and recoveries afterwards were that painful. I did a lot of research before making up my mind too but from the beginning my instinct told me to try for vbac. What do your instincts tell you?

Sorry I meant to say The that if I were pregnant I think that would be a clear way forward but as I'm not and happy with outcome? Even though the info would play a part in my decision whether or not to have another child Confused. My consultant was very supportive and has a particular interest/expertise in supporting women through vbac (even one who had had three previous sections)
