.... I have an elcs booked for Thursday.

If I go into labour early I have to give a vbac a try.

Today I've been having quite painful BH and a bit of - ahem - mucus so I'm worried I won't make it to Thursday.

So I thought starting a thread here might jinx things and slow it down ... failing that please tell me I can do a vbac!

DD was an emcs because she was OP so that's why I have the elcs booked.

Took my sister over a week to get into full swing with her second baby. Lots of twinges and mucus.
But you can do a VBAC if needed

blueberryboybait · 12/08/2012 20:35

Why do you have to give VBAC a try? Our local hospital urges you to go in if you thing it may be labour after a previous section and you have a c-section booked, they do an 'emergency' section if you appear to be going into labour.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 12/08/2012 20:35

How come? That sounds mean!

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 12/08/2012 20:37

Oh you can do it though!

If its the pain your nervous about, the epidural will sort that out, and you will not have recovering from surgery to worry about.

poppy283 · 12/08/2012 20:55

Is it not normal practice? Consultant said as there's no reason dc2 will be op too, there's no sense giving me an emcs, as there would be no emergency?

Thanks for the support!

Plan is to have an epidural if I do go early, got all the way to 2 hours of pushing with Dd, so it's a combination of fear about actually giving birth vaginally, as it's the bit I haven't done, and fear of ending up with another emcs.

I just want to stick to the plan and have a lovely calm elcs on Thursday!

I thought they booked them in a bit earlier just in case?

Im not allowed to have one due to complications. And even worse there were mutterings about no epidural!

poppy283 · 12/08/2012 21:58

I'll be 39+5 when elcs is booked, and I went 4 days overdue with Dd so I thought I'd be ok ... Fingers and legs crossed!

No epidural! that's mean. Good luck!

I know! I need to start a thread nearer the time to see what other druggage I can have.

All the best, sure you will last till Thursday.

AmandinePoulain · 12/08/2012 22:15

I was in a very similar situation to you last week! Dd1 was OP with her head positioned awkwardly so I ended up with an EMCS. I had an ELCS booked for a
week tomorrow, when I would have been 39 weeks, dd2 was meant to be breech ( several mws and a registrar had 'confirmed' this, but as I was booked for a
cs I wasn't scanned...until I started contracting on Thursday night that is, when a scan showed her to be head down, but not fully engaged and also OP. At that point I was given the option to either try for a VBAC or go for an EMCS - I chose the cs, and it was a positive experience, very different to my first traumatic delivery.

The registrar agreed to the cs straight away, it was an easy, conversation with no pressure to go for the VBAC. You may find that the staff on if you find yourself in a similar situation may be more supportive if a cs is what you want.

Good luck with whatever happens. Smile

poppy283 · 12/08/2012 22:23

Thank you Amandine, it's all getting quite painful, going to start timing them.

Glad you had a positive experience and congratulations on your new baby!

Sorry If you thought I wasn't helping Blush

If you feel you want to try for a VBAC then see how you go but if you don't then ring delivery suite, explain about the contractions and booked c-section, they may ask you to pop down and then you can have a chat to which ever registrar is on. You may find they are happy to do a section if that is what was planned for.

If you do go ahead with your VBAC then a warm bath and 2 paracetamol may ease things slightly for a bit.

poppy283 · 13/08/2012 05:44

Thanks blueberry, will give that a try. My preference would be the cs but I don't feel up to an arguement :(

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 13/08/2012 11:11

How are you doing?

Are you still having pains?

nearlymumofone · 13/08/2012 19:47

poppy totally understand how tired you are and not up for an arguement about it- so get DP or someone to argue it on your behalf and get that cs.

I'm also booked for an elcs 39+5 due to a bad tear last time. I'm slightly cacking it that i'll go into labour early!

pixiestix · 13/08/2012 19:50

Hope you are doing ok Poppy.

poppy283 · 14/08/2012 05:22

Hello! Baby was born by emcs at 8.40 last night, total deja vu but we're all doing fine and that's the main thing :)

Congratulations!

AmandinePoulain · 14/08/2012 09:03

Congratulations! And well done for getting the birth you wanted Smile

blueberryboybait · 14/08/2012 15:42

Congratulations :)

BionicEmu · 15/08/2012 12:51

Congratulations poppy! Thanks

So glad you managed the CS in the end Smile

(And Pickles I can't have an epidural, and docs are very keen not to do a CS as it will have to be under general anaesthetic and recovery will be v difficult due to pre-existing problems. I have been offered remifentanyl on a PCA pump by the anaesthetist. Was offered the same with DC1 a couple of years ago but labour was too quick to set it up though.)

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 15/08/2012 14:07

Ooo that sounds very interesting! Thanks. I'm not seeing the consultant again for ages so I'll look into that & mention it.

Just nice to know there is something if I need it.

poppy283 · 15/08/2012 21:34

Hmm I wouldn't say it was the birth I wanted! Was in labour for about 24 hours then quite a rough emcs.

But I have my lovely ds now :)
