Premature birth

Can I ask any of you what signs you had if you had a premature birth?
I was premature, 2 months early and I'm now past 30 weeks. My mum keeps mentioning it and it's making me so so paranoid. She thinks every twinge could be it especially as
My baby's head is down.
I'm getting stressed, emotional and panicky.
Today is already a hard enough day!

Massive bleeding throughout pregnancy, twin pregnancies, with two I had a show a week or so before birth. I've had 23 week twins, 28 week twins and two 27 week singletons.

About half an hour before my waters broke with ds I had extremely bad pain in my lower back. With dd my waters just went. Ds was 8 wks early de was 6 wks. How far along are you? Btw I was 2 wks late so it really has no bearing on when your own child will be. born

Bleeding throughout
miscarrying a twin
contractions for a long time (on of for weeks)
27+ weeks

drtachyon · 10/08/2012 18:46

Waters broke at 33 weeks.

Labour started a week later. Contractions started off as very bad backache (probably as DS was back to back). DS born within 24 hours of the first contraction.

Unexplained bleeding from 29 weeks, contractions started at 31+3, DS born 31+5

Not nice for you for your mum to keep mentioning it, but bear in mind your pregnancy could be bringing back many memories for her which she might be struggling to deal with. My friend's mum was a total pain in the arse throughout my friend's pregnancy and said some bloody awful things, but I think it was because she had never dealt with her feelings about the two traumatic births she had and her second DC's very long stay in neonatal intensive care.

Pickles77 · 10/08/2012 19:08

Thanks guys, I think it's because I've had bad backache that she keeps going on Angry I know she means well,
But if I hear one more chorus of you were such and such says old by now I'll scream

DS stopped kicking about 10 minutes before a midwife appt, that was it. No other symptoms at all

He was born less than an hour later 8 weeks early

I think TeaandHobNobs could be right on the money

oikopolis · 11/08/2012 22:49

agree Tea probably has it right.

I've just given birth to a 34-weeker. It's not ideal, but there are worse things in the world to happen. Try not to worry -- if it happens, it will be dealt with as it happens, and you'll just need to stay calm and strong.

for me, bleeding at 10 weeks probably due to rather enthusiastic sex as opposed to a "real" bleed; my bump measured small a few times at start of 3rd tri... Also i have hypermobility syndrome which carries a risk of PROM.

then one Saturday I said to a friend "i feel like I'm going to give birth to this child at any moment", was feeling heavy and sore-fanjoed basically. Later that afternoon, I felt a very very slight twinge on the left side of my lower pelvis and thought "oh baby is moving down". I mentioned it to my DH too. Of course none of these signs are unusual.

10 hours later, 2am on Sunday, i got up for a wee and lost pink water, which started to flow out quicker and quicker. It was a PROM, and I was induced two days later, 34 weeks on the nose.

tiggersreturn · 15/08/2012 21:40

Carrying twins (main reason for prom), moving house @ 33+1, back ache and exhaustion on 33+3, going to loo 8 times that night then prom during late breakfast. Moral of story- don't move house! Both were eventually and thankfully fine

WantAnOrange · 16/08/2012 18:04

Oh no I'm moving house at 35 weeks Tiggersreturn!
