Supervisors of Midwives

As a student SoM I'm looking for inspiration about how to raise the profile of supervision in my locality. I just wondered how visible SoM's are in different regions? Did you find them easy to access? Apart from the odd poster there is no 'advertising' in my locality and I'm looking at ways to improve women's awareness of supervision. Thought the best place to start was to ask service users!
Thanks

I knew of mine but was told about it by my independent midwife as we would have needed to see her to get approval for a water vbac if my home birth plans failed.

I'm more concerned about the imminent demise of independent midwifery due to European insurance requirements...

Maybe also get in touch with your local NCT Branch. They might have events you could attend, maybe you could speak at a meeting, pop into a Bumps and Babies session or write an article for your local NCT Newsletter.

Another here who's only ever heard of SoM mentioned on mn with regards to complaining about a mw.

Because I'm a doula I'm quite familiar with them. As a patient I met the one from my previous town at the home birth support group. Where I am now I met her at my consultant appointment once a registrar and consultant realised they couldn't talk me out of an HBAC. She was brilliantly supportive.

Hmm I'm on baby number 4 and would have loved a supportive MW and if a SoM is then I want one. Heck my CMW needs a reality check and someone to kick her tooshie to be honest.
I've got to the point at 38+3 were I think a vet would be better at monitoring me. MWs here for me have been well useless.
I didn't even know a SoM existed Sad sorry to say. Best of luck btw!

Another high risk PITA here. I've heard of you via homebirth.org and NCT literature. I had to go looking, though.
