Looking good for labour

needsomesunshine · 07/08/2012 19:01

I have done my hair, nails, eyebrows, trimmed & shaved where necessary. Got a new dress & matching dressing gown for labour. I have not done my make up but I'm sure others have. I am just waiting now to be induced.
My dh thinks I'm mad but looking back at previous birth pictures, some of which I was butt naked in, I am determined to look good in these my last ones. I'm sure I'm not the worst- I didn't arrive in high heels & have not brought my make up bag. : )

Each to their own really, but I was proud of how crap I looked after! At least I looked like Id been doing something!! :D

Pascha · 07/08/2012 20:30

Damn right! If you want to look spectacular now then bollocks to everyone and good for you! What you look like at the end, of course, may be entirely different Grin

I would save the dressing gown for afterwards in case anything nasty gets on it.

YoulllWinGoldOneDay · 07/08/2012 20:46

If you want to look good, you better take the photos now. No matter how much prep you do, at the end you will look like you have run a marathon, just with a nice manicure Grin

Pascha · 07/08/2012 20:48

Are you there now? What time are they starting?

needsomesunshine · 07/08/2012 21:03

Started off already. Coming back to do another one at 1 so i'llbe up all night. No sleep will make the pictures look ten times worse! Smile

Best get the good pics done now Grin I shan't be awake by 1 (unless pregnancy insomnia rears its head again) but I will check back in the morning.

Loislane78 · 07/08/2012 22:16

I didnt think u could look good during labour. By the end of mine i couldnt give a monkies what i looked like.

thunksheadontable · 07/08/2012 22:55

No no no no no. It's not about what you do before. It's about brushing your hair, getting your slap on and having the first pics taken in black and white (or converted to later which is even better as you can have them moody and arty if it suits or glorious technicolour if you have The Glow).

I sent dh home to get my make up which I had bought specially. I was about three hours into induction and he was livid, but he went. In the event, I didn't wear it and my boobs were hanging out so no one will ever see that pic. Sigh.

needsomesunshine · 07/08/2012 22:57

Oh thunks Sad

needsomesunshine · 07/08/2012 22:58

I didn't think about the arty pics. Will get dh to take some arty shots from interesting anglesGrin

Morning Sunshine! How are you getting on?

DilysPrice · 08/08/2012 08:07

My top tip to pass the time in early labour is always to shave/wax your legs, do a pedicure, tweeze your eyebrows, put whatever treatment on your hair you like. You'll be hanging around for hours, probably in the bath so you might as well do all the things you won't have time or energy to do for another 6 weeks.

needsomesunshine · 08/08/2012 09:14

Morning , my hairs messed upGrin
And I've been in my birthing outfit for too long without any action so might have to revise that.

Ah. If you want the 'after' photos to look good, blusher (if you don't glow!), under eye stuff and mascara. Brush hair. Outfit really not important.

I look awful in my first daughter's photos and forgot to take any with DD2 (various delays with a slow placenta, so ages before stitches) and didn't take them until I had showered, dressed and put on the above make up. I look pretty good I would say! Bit of a shame I don't have any 'still in the towel' photos of DD2 though.

YoulllWinGoldOneDay · 08/08/2012 12:26

P.s Hang in there! Induction is a PITA but you'll get there!

Sharksandfishes · 08/08/2012 12:41

I'm now overdue Sad but have been seriously considering my post-birth photos, as with DS I had a homebirth but had to go into hospital for my stitches (HB pack didn't have the right suture kit). I didn't have a hospital bag packed, and threw a few bits into a bag. No brush, no makeup, nothing! I had a bath at the hospital and washed my hair but then couldn't brush/comb it.

My photos show mega rosy cheeks and frizzy hair. Never again!

This time, I have packed EVERYTHING, including one of those bun sponge things that makes a big 60s style bun. Everytime I put it in I get told how glamorous I look, so here's hoping....! Grin

RobinSparkles · 08/08/2012 12:49

Tsk, you forgot the spray tan!!! You don't want to look pasty on the pics Wink

My first photo with DD1 was horrendous! No make up, hair all over the place...
For DD2 I avoided the camera!

RobinSparkles · 08/08/2012 12:50

Meant to add - good luck! :)

lisad123 · 08/08/2012 12:51

I still remember my dad saying "what have they done to your face" after I had dd1. He got an elbow from mumGrin

Napdamnyou · 08/08/2012 12:55

Some of the Olympic athletes are wearing sequins and arty squiggles on their faces and legs, perhaps you could emulate? It might be an interesting craft project and will amuse the midwives...

Thanks for this thread - I wasnt happy with last birth pics - and yet hadnt thought much about dolling myself up!
If I go for ELC and I dont go into labour before I think I will have a blow dry etc before...pumpf hair out a bit etc..as well as make up...

Thinking of carry on films and ladies in floaty peach and baby blue dressing gowns with big gauze frills round neck and heaving boosoms and sixties eye make up and hair...

Purplecatti · 09/08/2012 09:02

My early labour plans involve plucking, waxing, shaving, brushing, manicuring, makeup preparation (waterproof mascara on shopping list). Even if I end up looking a total wreck, and I'm sure I will and won't give a fig when the time comes I will feel happy I at least went into it looking decent.
I mentioned this to a cousin who snorted and suggested a vajazzle to boot. Perhaps a welcome sign? Emergency exit? handle with care?? (She's a bit of a nutter)
I think it would make the midwives laugh!
