I know this isn't really the correct topic but couldn't fine one relevant. I am expecting my 2nd and really want/need an electric breast pump. I was thinking the madela and am after some advise, has anybody got one? Also, could I get the mini medela and use it every day? Or can anybody recommend a different electric pump thats good? I dont want to spend lots of money and not like it, many thanks.

I've been recommended the Spectra 3. I can't link as on my phone but it's a good price on amazon. I can't answer your questions on the Medela swing other than to say don't buy second hand because there is a slight flaw meaning they can't be sterilised properly (which is fine if you're buying new)

I have a Medela (think it's the mini, it's def not the swing) and have found it to be very efficient through 2 babies. Also found I could use the medela to reduce my swolen breast when I had a cracked nipple and couldn't bear baby on it. I would recommend.

Hi, I recently bought a Philips Avent Electric Pump and have found it to be fantastic. Although it is electric, it has the option to be used manually as well. I have to express milk daily so have got a lot of use out of it so far. Its painless, very user friendly and (i believe) a little cheaper than the Medela one. I bought mine from Mothercare back in June when it was on offer ;-) so have a look around!

Another vote for the Spectra3 from Amazon - cheaper than the 'branded' pumps and mine was great when I had to exclusively express for the first week. It is very powerful, but you can build the suction up so it doesn't hurt. Link here: www.amazon.co.uk/Spectra-3-Electric-Breast-Pump/dp/B000UTUFP6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1344372434&sr=8-1

I bought the swing it was good, but see that you can hire them too now and I hadn't thought about that.

mythnomore.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/why-you-shouldnt-buy-sell-or-borrow.html I don't know how reliable this is but that's where I got my info from Smile

i got a spectra3 from amazon as well and was very happy with it. Miles better than manual - dont waste your time with those.

medela swing worked very well for me... I was leant the main punp, and bought all perishable parts brand new, for £10ish online.. tubes, valves and the cup bit that goes over your nipple. might be the cheaper option?

Another fan of the swing here - I got mine for £60 (ish) on a Amazon "lightening offer" so perhaps worth signing up to get any special offers.

I used the avent with dd1 including expressing three times a day, three days a week when I went back to work at six months. It is still going strong with dd2. Hospital Medea pumps are great but I hated the mini electric which was an emergency purchase when I forgot my avent pump on holiday

Thanks everyone, thats great to have so much advice. I plan to express once a day to build up a stock in the freezer. I have been looking in to the spectra 3 and thimk ill go for that as the reviews are great and its fairly cheap.
Thanks again x
