Had my c section baby yesterday at kensington wing

Long detailed post bout my birth for anyone interested baby is here! Yesterday arrived in chelsea and westminster hospital at 10 am. Consultant
Midwives and anesthetic specialst all came in one by one to have a chat bout their role and explained everything and leftplenty of time to answer all my questions thoroughly.
At 1 pm went in to theathre. Had local anesthetic then spinal. Was just a scratch. They got baby out. No pain. Just pulling n tugging. It was quick and the atmosphere was very friendly. The care was excellent!! The support was excellent. One of the mudwives was dedicated to me while i left baby on breast. I fell asleep and shemade sure baby was comfortable and sucking. They changed all nappies. Helped with breastfeeding. Unfortunately my breasts are empty. Back in the room the took baby at night so i could sleep.
I got up 24 hours after c section to go to the loo. Catheter removed. I stood up fine. Straight and walked slowly. It is very sore when i get up but no pain otherwise. Got morphine yesterday. Cocodamol today. The pain and discimfort is a lot less than my natural birth 3 years ago.
Will have a shower later today. I had no sickness. No air trapped in the shoulder. No bladder issurs. 500 ml blood loss. Am drinking prune juice. Had no peppermint tea. Around belly when i get up it does feel bruised and like it will all fall out. But its not a really bad sensation. Had some itchiness but again very mild. They offered piritin but i didnt take it. Im absolutely surprised by how great i feel. I recommend c sections for ladies whove had bad vaginal experiences or who are contemplating it for other medical reasons!!! I was really scared. But i feel fab. Its a great experience so far. The kensington wing is AMAZING!!!

Did you have a boy or a girl Grin

KickTheGuru · 02/08/2012 15:00

That's the post I like to read!

Congratulations on your baby.

Did you go privately?

Annals1989 · 02/08/2012 15:09

Yes I'd like to know if you went privately too? I suffered a 3rd degree tear with my first baby in May this year and had a lot of repair work done on theatre afterwards. Even though I really enjoyed labour and delivering my baby and would love to do that but again I just don't think I could risk having another 3rd degree tear again. So I think I would consider having an elective c-section.

Congrats Billy! So you decided to change the date in the end to avoid the road race?! Good call! Glad it went so well

hettiebull · 02/08/2012 17:26

congratulations, really glad it went well for you - have always had excellent care there also. wishing you a swift recovery.

Had a baby boy. Yes i did go private. One of the midwives was nasty during an appointment earlier. But my consultant had a word with them. Everyone else amazed me. I dont even feel like i had a baby. Feel fresh. Though i didnt sleep the night befote. No never changed the date to avoid road race. We decided to take the tube as traffic was herrendous. Got to tube station to find out there was a signal faillure for district line. So took a longer route with overground. Still had to walk 15 mins to get to cabs n buses from trainstation as all roads around the station were closed. Had awful pelvic pains. But its all gone now. Im only on cocodamol and voltarol and im fine. Im sure when i get home it will be harder but mums staying 8 weeks taking care of toddler.
Highly recommend keith duncan. Man of few words but greatly skilled.

Its awful when a midwife gives the whole profession a bad name by having a bad attitude but all the other midwives were angels. Tje recovery room before u come to ur private room is nhs. The private nurses were very busy and the nhs midwives and nurses were fab as well. Never felt neglected. And im comparing to a previous to a previous birth and care in a private hospitsl in dubai which was pure luxury and heaven. Honestly love this hospital. For anyone who is considering kensington wing privately please dont be put off by front staff and receptionists. The quality of their service does not reflect the care inside at all.

Bit more soreness today as spinal took two days to comletely ware off. But nothing unbarable. My episiotomy stitches were more painful

I had a myomectomy so had the cut without the baby and I was up and about very soon afterwards. The nurses actually asked me two days later why I had not had the surgery.

A lot of woman give the actual cut a very bad name - I honestly didn't find it that big a deal and there aren't half the leftover "long term" issues that may potentially be left behind with a natural birth.

I would opt for an elective c-section and it's really so nice to FINALLY see some positive feedback. I mean, I would choose it anyway but I've also had the cut before from large fibroids and have type 1 diabetes and a genuine fear so fingers crossed I've got enough medical history.

I think it's also a pain-threshold thing. I think some people will automatically lend the cut more "pain" attribution because its a cut.

Congratulations billy11, hearing about your experience has been music to my ears, I'm due to have an elcs in 20 days time aaghh! And ive been so worried abut the pain I will have have afterwards and whether I will be able to manage hearing your story has really reassured me.

Billy11 · 05/08/2012 07:38

Its so true that c sections have bad names. I did have a natural birth last time and with only a 7 pound baby it left my pelvic and knee joints damaged for life!! During my 28 hour labour they offered a ce section but i refused to ever have one cause natural birth was do hyped up. If i had one last time my long term health would be a lot better. So when we consider risks of a c section we shouldnt treat vaginal births like its natural. Im
Sorry but pelvic bones opening. Tearing n stitching. Episiotomies. These all need medical attention and are not
Signs of things going naturally. Anyway. Hope other women can save themselves from pain and harm after reading my post
