Please help! I've posted before but only git 1 reply: (
I am 36+4 and baby has moved from engaged to transverse - head to the left side if that means anything to anyone! My midwife said "well you can't give birth like that" but didn't go into detail. I have to wait for my consultant appt but in the meantime just wanted to ask all you experienced mums what does it all mean? What happens now? Thankyou

Hi, my DD2 was transverse lie at term. They can try to turn the baby and if this fails they will do ELCS. I was admitted to the ante-natal ward at 37 weeks until the ELCS date (because there is a small risk of cord prolapse with a transverse baby -- in which case they need to deliver fast). You baby might still move of its own accord though.

The ELCS was absolutely fine, I was recovered well and DD a wonderful 20 month old now so try not to worry too much about this.

Thankyou. SmileI have read that they may try to turn him, ECV? I can't believe on my fourth pregnancy I'm still learning so much!

Thankyou birds. Your previous thread was a huge help and described how I am feelingSad. I am meant to be induced at 38 weeks due to o.c ( increased bile levels) then this on top just as my levels are going down. I did say it last time but this is defo the last! Can't take the stress!

Is that what they call ECV Jules?

Yes, trying to turn the baby is an ECV. It does work sometimes - but not always. I was ok with going down the ELCS route anyway though but being kept on the ante-natal ward was not pleasant. Still it did end really well for both of us. I personally doubt you can do much about it so just try to relax and let the medics decide what to do for you both.

To add to that - if they try and manually turn the baby they may well do a section that day if it was not successful - if it is successful/or unsuccessful please please ensure they scan afterwards to check the location of the cord to make sure it not around babies neck.

My son was transverse and I chose a section and refused the offer of a manual turn - it was very relaxed and I had a great recovery - I am booked in for an ELSC for my 2nd - who is also transverse.

Good luck with what you decided - the spinning babies website is meant to be wry helpful! Smile
