How much did your partner take, and was it
a) fully paid but not out of holiday allowance
b) Statutory pay (i.e. £100)
c) Holiday
d) Unpaid leave

I'll start....

ds - 3 1/2 days (2 full days, 3 half days), taken as holiday

dd - 5 days, taken as holiday

PG no. 3 - to be decided. Would be interested to know what other people did. Also, what sort of place your dp/dh works at (i.e. small business, self employed, large company, government etc.)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

We've been unbelievably lucky on this front. DH had 2 weeks full pay with baby number one and has been offered the same for baby number 2 with a different company. I don't know how generous they are with female staff, Smile. My old company certainly wasn't!

janinlondon · 07/03/2006 13:51

Day off on day of actual birth. Pay withheld accordingly.

DH has had to book his paternity/annual leave for dd2's expected arrival way back, before I was even 20 weeks pregnant. Difficult, who knows when they are going to arrive? Anyway, we have done this from week 39 of my pregnancy:

1 week paternity full-pay
1 week paternity at statutory rate (about £110 a week)
2 weeks paid annual leave

Totalling: 4 consecutive weeks together. Have saved for the week at statutory pay so it won't be too much of a shocker. DH works for large, international airline in a predominantly male dominated industry so things like taking time off for the birth of a baby are still, even in 2006, tricky.

ds1 - one week

ds2 - five weeks. Very well planned and came early to oblige. 2 weeks full pay paternaty leave, 1 week holidays and two weeks the building was closed over xmas. From the 27th Nov to 5th Jan.

He works for Manchester Metropolitan unversity. get's about 35 days holiday a year plus two weeks at xmas and paid very well. So I'm not grumbling or going back to work. Grin

Hubby took 2 weeks fully paid leave then 3 weeks of holiday. It was so great to have him home supporting dd and myself.

tribpot · 07/03/2006 17:54

My dh has had every day off since ds was born 8 1/2 months ago! Although in fairness, this is because he is too ill to work, and takes a stint in the afternoon whilst I go into work, haven't really worked out the plan for when I go back full-time soon.

I really would be lost if I was here on my own; in some ways his illness is as much a blessing as a curse. Looking after him takes a lot of my time but equally I do have the ability to say "oh god, I'm knackered, it's your turn I'm off for an hour's kip" whenever I need to (does have to be need though as dh is very unwell).

DS - 1 month 'special leave' full pay (Canada).

For the next one he'll get 2 weeks pat leave on full pay folowed by 2 weeks annual leave.

maewest · 09/03/2006 07:53

DH hasn't taken it yet as I am due end of July with our first child, but his company (very large European Aero Engineering firm) only offers 2 wks at statutory, so may have to take holiday. Company is very male dominated, but apparently their maternity pay package is v good (work that one out Wink)

My company (12 employees, not-for-profit) offers 2 weeks full pay.

congratulations, gomez Smile

dh took 2/3 wks for both dc but imho the real question is how much the dhs contribute on an ongoing basis...

bossykate · 10/03/2006 22:51

or dps...

Pruni · 10/03/2006 22:56

One month, on full pay, no official paternty leave
The joys of acadaemia out of term time and a boss that doesn't come in much either...

JonesTheSteam · 10/03/2006 23:16

When I had the children DH worked for Sony.

When I had DD - week fully paid paternity leave.

When I had DS he wasn't allowed to take paternity leave straight away as he had been off work for 2 weeks (very bad tonsilitis and allergic reaction to penicillin!! - I was driving him to hospital at 8 1/2 mths pg) until the day DS was born (he went to work at 7am and at 9 I phoned him to come home because my contractions were v. close together - he got home at 10 and I had the baby at 12.15!!!!).

He was allowed two days, and then had another three to take later on, if I remember correctly.

Flossam · 10/03/2006 23:19

DP was very lucky and saved up lots and lots of hols. DS was born 8th Nov, he had from then off till just before xmas, when he went back for 5 days then had two weeks off again!! Grin

he's a policeman and used paternity leave and holiday.

wabbitintheheadlamps · 10/03/2006 23:30

2 weeks - 1 full pay + 1 annual leave (taken when ds was 6 weeks) breaking it up really helped.

flutterbee · 10/03/2006 23:33

2 weeks paternity leave on full pay, he's worked for this big company for 5 years now and then also took 2 and a half weeks holiday on top.

If he had worked for them for less than 3 years then the first week would have been fully paid but the second week £100.

MumtoBen · 15/03/2006 20:26

a) 2 weeks full pay. Works for large company.

fruitful · 15/03/2006 21:08

With dd he was self-employed and took 2 weeks off, unpaid obviously.

With ds, I was in hospital for 2 weeks and MIL looked after dd while dh went into work. Then he had two weeks at home, and did about a week's worth of work at home during the fortnight. They paid him as normal for all of it. So I guess that is one week at full pay. But it meant he was there until I could drive again (cs).

If we have a next one he'll be taking 6 weeks off, or alternatively he can take all the kids into work with him for a couple of months Grin.
