We used the Vicks one when our little one was about 1. Was winter time, heating on (so no fresh air in the house - yuk!) and he had a cold. Certainly didn't cure the cold but I do feel it made a difference. We also put a few drops of olbas oil in it.

Got it from Amazon and would definitely recommend.

Maybe post in 'parenting' forum as you may get more responses?

We have the Vicks one too. It definately made it easier to breath when we all had colds and it reduced nighttime coughing.

It does release a lot of water overnight though - it gets through the whole reservoir during 10pm to 6am ish. So you get very wet windows. I would t have it on every night all night as I think it'd cause damp. You might be able to get humidifiers that release less water though?

We've got a humidifier and it definitely helps DD (2.5 yo) when she has a cold. We've got a cold one which isn't as noisy and doesn't seem to use as much water.
Make sure you ventilate rooms during the day, though!! They cause a lot of condensation.
