ELCS

Hi all

I am having an ELCS with DC2, as i ha failed induction and EMCS with DS.
Having been in labour for 28 hrs, 14 active, i was shattered and as id had GD they wouldnt release us until DS blood sugars had levelled out. I was in for 4 days (1 before 3 after) and so wanted to get home!

My question is With an ELCS am i likely to get home any sooner? This time i will bottle feed much quicker if breast isnt easily established which should sort baby's sugars out within 24 hours (DS wouldnt feed and was tongue tied).

I am likely to have the Elcs just before christmas or just after depending on my GD, obviously if before i will be keen to get home to my DS for christmas, and either way I HATE hospital. Is there a minimum time that realistically you have to stay? NICE guidelines say 24 hrs to 4 days.. Im hoping that without the blood loss and if baby co operates i could be home the next day?

My hospital said 3 days but people do go after 2.
When I had my elective last year I wasn't able to get out of bed until the next day so earliest I could have gone would have been day 3.

I'm sure that the hospital will be keen to get people out anyway.

I recovered well was walking around by 9 am, hoping that will be the same this time, i couldn't rest properly until i was home anyway, fingers crossed!

I had an EMCS at 10pm on Friday night after a failed induction and was discharged at 3pm the next day. Baby was feeding well but I had lost 800mls of blood during the operation so was a bit surprised they let me go so soon!

I had a elcs on the 18th of July and even with a blood loss of 1lt and an iron transfusi

OTTMummA · 22/07/2012 14:35

Sorry! Even with the iron transfusion I was discharged on the 20th and felt fine to do that. You may have to keep on about it a bit to the midwife but so long as there are no big complications I can not see why you shouldn't be out by day 2.

Thanks i cant think of anything worse than another long stay as long as baby is healthy, so fingers crossed

I was in for 2 nights just after my emergency section. Had ds 10.30 pm Saturday night. Home Monday morning.
This time I am having an elective and I have been told 2 nights if all ok.

I've had 2 ELCS and the standard protocol at my hospital is a 48hr stay after birth. I had a massive haemorrage with the 2nd (undiagnosed placenta accreta) and was in the High Dependency Unit for 24hrs and then the normal post-natal for 24 - still released 48 hours after birth. Felt fine (more or less).

I left hospital 24 hours after my ELCS.
I think its quite common now to only stay in for one night if you and baby are feeling ok.

Most of the other CS ladies went home after one night, except for one lady who wanted a bit more help to establish breast feeding.

Just let them know you want to leave hospital as soon as possible after.

With my EMCS FOR dd1 eight years ago I really had to pester to go home after 48 hours. When I went in for my ELCS to have dd2 in Jan, I just said I want to go home asap and the next morning they asked me if I still wanted to go home and discharged me.
