I was in hospital on thursday as i was already 4cm but because babies head wasnt down enough all has stopped. I was sent home again. having pains on and off was back up last night and i am now 5cm but babies head is still too high :( i am booked in to get induced at 39 weeks on the 10th july due to the fact i have horrendous SPD.

was wondering was anyone induced when already dilaated or has anyone had this happen to them?

I was booked to be induced on a Monday (BP concerns, was 40 weeks)and was 3cm on the Friday and consultant said they would just break my waters and hopefully that would work. She also said she'd be surprised if I hadn't had the baby by Monday and she was right as I had her on the Saturday afternoon.

I was induced with my third when he was massively overdue. He was already incredibly low down, I was 3cms dilated for a long time before I accepted nothing was happening by itself. I was told they'd most likely just break my waters, as when I had my last sweep the midwife had to stop abruptly as she said they were bulging and she didn't want to break them herself. But when we got to the hospital, for some reason they wouldn't break my waters so I ended up being induced with a propess pessary. I had that inserted at about 11am, and we pretty much just hung around in our room til about 4 when I told a midwife I was finding the pessary extremely uncomfortable. I think I was having a very bad reaction to it in fact, as when I was monitored it was definately overstimulating me, the contractions, though extremely manageable, were very close together. I insisted then that they examined me, I was 4cms and the pessary was whipped out, which was in instant relief. (Seriously, if you suspect that you're having a reaction to it, don't wait, just get it taken out. I spent all day feeling like i had the worst cystitis ever Blush) and we were left to it again. Because I wasn't wailing or screaming I don't think they were taking me seriously, I ended up draped over a birth ball before realising with incredible clarity that I needed moving to ther labour room NOW. Ds was delivered in 40 minutes from them assessing me as being 4cms, so once the pessary worked it was incredibly efficient. I was induced with my first, 8 years ago now, and I found that horrendous and as a result was dead against ever being induced again. But that was a different method, I do think the newer way, despite having a bad reaction, is far better.
If anything, I'd say that as this is your third, be aware that things may happen very quickly. I was in tears when we arrived at 9am for induction only to be told my waters wouldn't be broken and they'd try the propess and if nothing happened for 24 hours, they'd try something else. I had left my dc at home tellign them I' be home later on that day with their new sibling and was distraught that I wa sbeing told it could take days . As it turned out, I went home 2 hours after ds was born so it did work out.

thanks so much ladies for your stories sounds like things could go very quick.

I was induced wit DS and it took nearly 12 hours from start to finish i was physically and emotionally drained with it all and i am just so dreading the whole process but i think from what you ladies have said that things culd be different.

i keep getting told ways to bring the head down but i cant do any of them as with my SPD i cant even open my legs so straddling a chair or birthing ball is out of the question.

think im just nervous cause i will only be 39 weeks when they do induce that baby just wont be ready to come.:(

I was 3cm when I went into hospital to be induced with DC3 due to PROM. The midwife said as I was 3cm then I needed to go straight to the drip but I needed to be on labour ward for that (was on antenatal ward) and they didn't have a bed free. I then hung around for about 10 hours. I had my book and the midwife kept bringing me tea and toast, it was quite nice. When they finally had a bed for me I was 5cm. I asked the midwife if we could not bother with the drip as my other children arrived quickly once I got to 4cm. She said she could examine me again in a couple of hours but by then I was pushing so no induction needed in the end.
