How long after c-section were you standing and allowed a bath/shower?

That's it really...
Having second c-section in 2 weeks time and wondering about this...
First time around they kept me in bed for almost 24 hours, is this normal??
Also, when did you go home?

I had my dd2 at 2pm. I begged them to take my catheter out at 6am and they'd left my epidural tube thing in my back all night too. At 9am they took that and the cannula out and lobbed me in the shower. I then did a car journey in the snow to the local birth centre which was pretty agonising. I asked for five days in there as i couldnt face my dd1 jumping all over me at home. But i could walk to the loo/shower each of the five days and on the day i came home i was really mobile.

I was forced at 11pm after birth at 2.30pm. It was too early IMHO.

EMCS at 10pm, in the shower at 10am, could have done it earlier but had to wait for space on the ward, the room I was in until then didn't have a shower.

The same evening I managed to stand up to wash face/brush teeth etc. but I still had catheter in so couldn't go far. The next morning they took my catheter out and I was encouraged to have a shower.

I work in a hospital and I have seen women outside smoking a couple of hours after a cs, so if you are really determined...Hmm

That Hmm wasn't directed to op btw! Grin

A midwife once told me apparently smokers actually healed quicker from the cs's because they did get up and about! - only in that regards obv she wasn't saying they were healthier by any means

SuddenlyMadameGlamour · 04/07/2012 19:45

It might help in that sense, but smoking plays havoc with wound healing!

PinkPepper · 04/07/2012 22:41

Oh yeah it was def a quicker 'up and about' thing not proper heal
