Disappointed with not being able to have a VBAC

Today is my due date.

This is my third pregnancy; DD was vaginal birth at term, DTSs born by elective CS at 37 weeks (mainly due to the fact they are identical).

Since my first ante-natal appointment I have wanted to try for a VBAC. Although I recovered quite well from CS, I did have really painful diaphragmatic irritation.

Had ante-natal appointment yesterday. Baby's estimated weight is 9lb, head free, cervix long & clamped shut. But the most troublesome thing is the discovery of a big vaginal cyst, which apparently is quite solid. So solid & sizeable that it may impede baby's delivery.

Decision is for an elective CS on Monday. Disappointed about this and also worried about the cyst; I will be followed up quickly by gynae post delivery.

I'd be grateful for any thoughts, advice or similar experiences.

I can understand why you might be disappointed but keep your eye on the prize. The best thing is to get you LO in your arms as safely as possible AND to look after your health. No good to any of your dc's if your poorly. Have you LO here and get that cyst sorted out pronto!

True cs recovery isn't easy (had cs with dd) but some v. births aren't easy to recover from either. Both have +ve's and -ve's. My friend ended up having to have major reconstructive bowel surgery after a 4th degree tear and had a colostomy bag for a long time.

Disappointing...maybe. Necessary...definitely!

Good luck my lovely!!

Thank you for your encouraging words buttonboo.

I know you are right about getting the baby here safely and mode of delivery won't matter very much when he/she is here.

I spoke briefly to a friend today, who is a Specialist Reg in Obs & Gynae. She has reassured me that decision is the right one for the baby and for me. She has also told me the cyst may resolve spontaneously post-delivery. Fingers crossed!

My DD (4) is counting down the sleeps until she gets to meet the baby, which is helping me stay excited, rather than focus on any disappointment. My DSs are also full of chat about the doctors and nurses helping me get the baby out (they're only 2.5!).

I hope your friend has made a full recovery from what sounds like a very difficult birth.

Thanks again. I will update this thread with any news. Smile

Please do!

Hopefully someone may come along with more thoughts or experience of something similar.

It's good having friends 'in the know'. I work at a hospital (not a Dr) and have friends in O&G who were really helpful when I got PE. Hopefully they've put your mind at rest...a bit!!

Just an update. Had my CS on Monday, DS3 weighed 9lb 3.5oz. He is an absolute dote, and only cries when hungry!

He is gorgeous (aware I am biased!) and his big sister and brothers are delighted with him.

CS itself went well, and am recovering well. It did take an hour to site the spinal though; lots of deep breathing required! But at the end of the day, DS3 is here safe & sound, and am very glad to be home with him, DH and the other DC.

Thanks for your support ButtonBoo. I hope you have recovered well from your PE as well, am sure that was a worrying time for you.
