Did you (ahem) have it all waxed?

thought about changing my name for this but cannot be "arsed" scuse the pun. I am rather, shall we say, hirsute down below, and I know that in the throes of childbirth you really couldn't give a monkey's fiddle what you look like, but I am quite keen on having it all waxed off down there before by second labour in a few months time. But having never had anything waxed ever apart form eyebrows once many years ago, I have no idea of salons do this, or if i will be thrown out and the police called for enquiring.

Can anyone assist in this delicate matter with advice?

Hairy

xxBlossom

Hi Blossom,im on the July thread with you.A word of warning before you get it all taken off.I reguarly had a brazillian done, the one here you have a "landing strip" left. All was fine until a different therapist did it when my regular girl was off,it was so so painful compared to what it usually was.I now have large boils from having ingrowing hairs and my doc says she sees lots of women with it.I am on antibiotics atm and believe me its not attractive. If you do want to go ahead get a reccommendation from someone you know.I really enjoyed being a bit bare down there Blush but i would never have anything waxed again.

IamBlossom · 27/02/2006 16:23

hey algach!! hmm, that sounds like a nightmare! Maybe I won't bother. I mean i shave it all so it's tidy, but don't bother with the harder to reach bits, only considering it for this process......

I wouldn't reccomend it but i'm sure there are loads of ladies who have it done with no probs. As far as pain it's not too bad if you have a good therapist.I will prob do bits i can reach myself and i may ask dp to help with bits i can't!Blush

Sorry to 'butt' in but I never gave this a second thought when PG with my two. Why should you shave an area you wouldnt normally (i've heard regrowth is very itchy!) just because you are going to give birth. I think the midwives/drs have seen it all before. Imagine the pain of the regrowth when you've got a new baby/breastfeeding and after pains etc. Dont even go there!!!

I now use an electric shaver so not painfyl at all.I understand where Blossom is coming from tho.I shaved my legs every night in case i went into labour and also had a pedicure and all that.Wanted to know all my bits looked nice.lol

IamBlossom · 27/02/2006 16:30

Purple Princess, that's why I'm enquiring about waxing, as i don't want to shave where I don't normally. I'm not comparing it to an "important" feature of labour, but it is something I am considering, so wondered what other people had done.

I wax regularly, including in pregnancy. A few days before my CS, I had a more thorough bikini wax done, well below the anticipated scar line.

As far as all that lochia is concerned.......best thing I ever did Grin

I do remember in theatre being a pit peeved that nobody noticed.........bit of morphine in the spine later and I insisted that all the nurses have a nosey Blush

agalch · 27/02/2006 16:31

Blossom try an electric if you havn't already.Wet shaving is too much hassle and the regrowth is a nightmare.

agalch · 27/02/2006 16:32

Does help to keep everything clean after the delivery i think too.

IamBlossom · 27/02/2006 16:33

Algach, I might just do that! Thanks.

No probs Blossom Grin

Highlander,i couldn't believe the mw didn't notice my freshly shaven legs and pedicure/french pedicured toe nails!! lol And after all the time and money i spent.Smile

vickiyumyum · 27/02/2006 16:48

she maybe did notice your 'trim' but was too polite to mention it! you get to see all kinds in the line of midwifery work, and from a professional point of view it really make sno difference, the only thing i would say is general hygeine awareness is appreciated (e.g have a shower before you go in), but from a personal point of view i found it much easier to keep fresh and feel cleaner when neater and preferably hair free, felt it was easier to get thouroughly clean each time i used the loo than when i had hair with ds1. so this time i am booked in for my hollywood three days before my c/s date! (have to say this is my personal choice every time not just because i will be exposing myself to my colleagues on teh operating table)

hockeymum · 27/02/2006 17:05

what's a hollywood vickyyumyum? Just about grasp the concept of a brazilian but no idea about a hollywood!

Also, how do they do it, do you have to spreadeagle like a smear or is it more subtle.

Another random connected question. Can you use immac or something to do the top of the pubic area before a section or do you definitely need to shave or wax? I'm going to get dh to remove my hair from there before the section as last time they used a disposable bic razor on dry skin and it burnt a lot!!! wanting to avoid that indignity!

RosiePosie · 27/02/2006 17:13

I just get dh to give me a grade one or two all over with his beard trimmer - not short enough to itch, but nice and neat. Things are pretty sore and messy down there afterwards, so less hair makes it more comfortable.

IamBlossom · 27/02/2006 18:28

HA HA HA just had visions of DH giving me a grade 1 with the thig he uses to trim his nasal hair, gave me the giggles. yeah what's a Hollywood? And will a salon know what I mean if i asked for that? And do you keep your knickers on? Please say you do...

vickiyumyum · 27/02/2006 19:37

a hollywood is completley off! the only reason i have it doen at a salon is because i have been going there for years and she persuaded me to have it done and i haven't looked back so to speak!

it is kind of embarrasing the positions you have to get into for them to get the hair, but then its the same for a brazillian so you might as well just have the landingstrip taken off at the same time. the brazillian is completley hairless everywhere except for the landing strip.

suwoo · 28/02/2006 15:58

Yes you do keep your knickers on for the waxing, but wear the tiniest ones and preferably black!! You just pull them back to where you want the hair removed. I have a brazilian for holidays and the rest of the time I shave it all of myself including the ahem undercarriage LOL. When I was pregnant with DD, I found a mirror was very useful although not particularly attractive!! Someone needs to invent a long handled pregnancy razor LOL

novadandypowder · 02/03/2006 16:11

it's definitly knickers off for a Hollywood where I go! I have a few pointers:
Go for hot waxing NOT strip waxing
Use Tend Skin and exfoliate during the regrowth stage
Ask for something to rest your thighs on as during pregnancy your muscles can over stretch
They do go all the way up the bum crack so don't be shocked!!
