Anyone else a bit scared of being discharged?

I had a bit of a surprise c section (didn't know until the night before) 2 weeks ago and was an inpatient for 3 days after, the section was a bit of a shock to the system after 2 normal deliveries but i recoverd well.
Myself and dd are still under the midwife as she has not yet regained her birth weight and hadn't yet lost her cord, over the past few days it's come to my attention that i'm getting quite nervous about being discharged and i'm not sure why Confused dd is a really good baby and is feeding and sleeping well,i'm a bit baffled as to why it's worrying me so much, does anyone else feel this way?

Congrats on dc3 first off! I only gave the one, DD (8mo) so obviously it being my first, I was nervous. But remember, you get discharged to the HV service and they're on hand for any problems, queries etc etc.

What's worrying you the most? You might feel quite 'vulnerable' as a cs can leave you quite fragile which might magnify the worry of being 'left'.

I think it's perfectly normal to feel like you do. It's a whole emotional rollercoaster this birth malarky!! Take each day as it comes, get help from family/friends if you can and ask your HV or GP if you've got any worries.

Don't forget that health visitors are qualified nurses too and an pick up where midwives leave off if you want them to. It sounds like you'll be fine but if not then pick up the phone and ask yours to come round. They aren't as proactive as midwives unless you're an "at risk" family but if you ask for support they'll provide it.

thank you ladies.

button I do feel quite vulnerable and didn't like feeling as helpless as i did the first 24hrs after the section.
I think whats worrying me the most is people keep telling me to take it easy and not to over do it or i will set back my recovery which leaves me wondering how much is too much? and also scares me and puts me off going out anywhere which i don't think is helping me either.

I completely understand. I took the first 3-4 days very easy and nice and slow. On day 5 we went out for a walk around our local park and the next day out for tea & cake to a cafe we love. Then once you've got out and about a few times and realise that you're not quite as fragile as you thought you'll start to do more.

The only things I didn't do were drive (until 6 wks post cs but I know others who drove much earlier), hoover (dp did it all) and carry anything heavier than my DD. It's a great excuse to put your feet up for a little bot and get someone else to do your housework!!! With 2 other dc's I'm not sure how practical it is, but just don't go tearing around or rush anywhere. The first week was gentle but after my discharge visit I just felt better and better each day.

I did get a post-op infection (picked up on my discharge visit) and had to go back in to hosp for 3 nights with dd for IV antibiotics so bed rest there might have helped!

Just take each day as it comes and remember that it's ok to rest. You've had major abdo surgery and besides...you've got lots of cuddles with new dc to fit in!!! x
