What *weird* and *wonderful* self induction methods did you try??

I shamefully admit I tried everything I possibly could when 11 days over trying to avoid induction. Drank balsamic vinegar (burns even worse on the way back up) Cumin tea (boiling water, cumin powder and raw potatoes)

BTW I DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE!! They didn;t work and were very nasty

Also tried Raspberry leaf, clary sage, pineapple, sex and curry

We think it was a chicken tikka masala that got things going eventually...

Have any of you tried 'spleen 6' it is an acupressure point on the inside of your ankle, I believe about 6 fingers from the ankle point and you recognise it because it feels sore if you press on that particular point. It is mentioned in 'Blooming Birth' to kickstart labour. However, when I did a search on the internet I became a bit wary because apparently it can make contractions too powerful.

Does any one have any experience with this? Any suggestions if it is worth trying plus safe?

Haven't heard of that specifically conni, but lots of info about about pressure points in general.

A friend who is very anti-induction has given her LMP date as a week further on than it was to avoid it - I'm assuming they'll change the EDD after scan though!

Personally i was desperate to avoid induction but ended up going into labour the day before scheduled induction, then spent 24hrs in labour and falied to progress, so ended up with everything i would've had to endure with induction anyway (drip, monitor etc)

Next time I am counting on being so busy with dd1 that a few days overdue will barely be noticed. It happens when it happens!!

tried the usual ones and a few others!

Raspberry leaf tea
Fresh pineapple
castor oil
balsamic vinegar
sex
oral sex
hot curry
running up and down stairs
bouncing on a birthing ball
inserting evening primrose oil caps near the cervix
clary sage oil
hot bath

All this was to avoid a scheduled induction and I didnt go into labour but only 1 pessary was needed and labour was quick and straightforward.

lots of fresh pineapple - gives you the runs which clears things out before labour too.

raspberry leaf tea from 36 weeks (you have to do the tea even if it is grim, easier to drink if leave to go luke warm and drink it down fast). I drank it in labour with the first and definitely felt the contractions getting stronger

brisk walk - fast and as long as you can manage

definitely agree with making an appointment to do something you don't want to miss.. the baby will come!

didn't get desperate enough to try anything else! dd1 born 3 days late and dd2 just 4 hours after due date.

Try a teaspoon of seedless raspberry jelly stirred into the RL tea - makes it slightly more bearable!

jellyjelly · 28/02/2006 16:55

never heard if evening orimose capsules up there before.

izzybiz · 28/02/2006 20:20

my SIL and her mum insist that a glass of sherry brings on labour!
never got to try it with my Dd as i was induced at 38 weeks.

snowgirl · 28/02/2006 20:36

Did RL tea but had no effect on bringing anything on--was eventually induced. Although read an Australian study that said it was only useful for speeding up the second stage of Labour, and as mine was only 20 mins Grin maybe it worked!
Friend did pressure points for hours and hours in the run up to her due date and was bang on time!

RubyMummy · 28/02/2006 22:12

I took RL tablets from 34 weeks - tons of them - certainly didn't bring on labour and my second stage lasted from 10.30 pm to 4.50am!! Perhaps tea is better than tablets??
