Is this the 'show'?

Morning folks.

Am 40+1 with DC1.

Yesterday I saw the consultant and he did an internal examination. Said I wasn't dilated at all yet so no point doing a sweep at that stage.

This morning when I wiped after going to the loo, there was mucus on the paper that was heavily streaked with brown blood. Just been to the loo again and more mucus (like ewcm) but only a few spots of brown blood this time.

Is this likely to be the show? Or just a result of the consultant dislodging something when rummaging about up there? He did mention that the mere act of doi g the exam can get things moving sometimes.

Don't know what ewcm is but it sounds just like a bit of dislodging gunk. TMI but my show was like a big plug of mucus - kind or a cross between an oyster and snot! :o

Ewcm = egg white cervical mucus...the jelly like stuff many women get around ovulation.

thats what my show was like last week. but difficult to say given that it followed an internal exam. :)

I had my show on Monday, to be very descriptive, it looked like bloody snot and have had red tinged discharge since.

I thought it would be more "solid"!

How are you feeling now?

RubberBandit · 20/06/2012 15:31

Thanks.

Feeling ok. Still passing very small amounts of mucus when i go to the loo but nothing else to suggest labour is imminent, unfortunately.

umboo, how long after your show did you go into labour?

sounds like a show. I had a show with DC2 and labour started next day, DC2 born 3 hours later. But some posters will tell you labour didn't start for a few weeks after their show, so it's different for all women. Hopefully it's close for you at 40 weeks. Good luck!

umboo · 20/06/2012 21:41

Within about four hours and dd born within twelve. But like pinkpeony said a show can also be days or weeks before labour. So I'd take it as a good sign but just that. Now would be a good time for a walk though:)

RubberBandit · 20/06/2012 21:55

Ah...if only I could walk...bloody SPD :( I'll just have to continue bouncing on my gym ball for now.

And congrats on the arrival of your DD :)

Gym ball is good too-I'm almost certain that that's what got things started as I'd spent loads of time on the gym ball for the24 hours before my show:) thanks for the congratulations hopefully I'll be returning them soon to you!!

RubberBandit · 21/06/2012 14:04

Thanks, umboo. Gym ball for the afternoon it it then :) Passed another large lump of mucus last night and feeling quite achy today so hopefully this is the start of things...I don't mind if it takes several days as long as I know something is happening.

i know how you feel. actually (long story) i ended up waiting in triage for about 3 hours after my show as when i phoned up maternity they said what i described they weren't sure if it was a show or abnormal bleeding, so they wanted me to come in- and then was seen by a bank nurse/mw (not sure which) who forgot about me. was very frustrating waiting so long just for someone to look at my pad....
