I had it for my DS 4 months ago and it was brilliantGrin all my midwife appointments at home, the same midwife each time so she got to know me very well and if she was ever away I knew exactly who would be seeing me instead ( they worked in teams of 4 )
But one of the best things was instead of having to ring the hospital anytime I had a problem ( I had a couple of bleeds early on, reduced movement etc) I could ring my midwife direct and she would either come straight round to my house or meet me at the hospital so when I got there I was straight away.

When I went into labour my midwife sat with me at home until I was ready to go to hospital and she stayed with me all through the birth and came and visited me on the post natel ward the following day to get me set up with breast feeding.

As you can probably tell I thought it was brilliant Grin

That sounds great :) I'm in my 3rd trimester so not long to go I think having regular midwives will make it do much easier!i must have seen 10different midwives so far and only had one twice so it's frustrating!!!thanks Smile

I was caseloaded too & loved it. All the midwives were lovely. I had the same one for most my appointments but met the rest of the team at ante-natal classes. I had all my third trimester appointments at home. They came out to me when I was in labour to check dilation & look at my show!

They came with me to the hospital when I was in labour. They even changed shifts & sent another team member up as I was in there so long. I had a horrible birth & it was so nice to have someone I knew looking after me. They also did the postnatal visits the next day & then came out to me again at home. They were bloody brilliant.

They have a twice yearly meet up for all the mums & babies they've looked after which I'm going to this weekend. Sadly i actually miss them, they were all so nice. If you can get it, I highly recommended it!

I was caseload too and also loved it - and for our team the fact that midwives came to your home meant you also had option of home birth if things progressing well (as I did). But for a friend on the same caseload team, her 38 hour labour (most of which was at home) was made easier by fact that she knew the midwives who were with her throughout, and the last one stayed on after her shift ended to help my friend settle into postnatal ward.
Definitely worth getting onto one if you can.

oh yes forgot the postnatal visits, I got extra ones cos they noticed my nipples were sore looking - I hadn't even really clocked it and just thought that was how nipples were meant to feel when establishing bf, but they made a big effort to help me and gave me good advice to get the milk supply established. I miss my midwives too!
