Hey all,
First post so here it goes. I'm not pregnant or anything (would like to be!) I had an 'easy' first birth. Gas and air, all pain in back so had some pethidine which didn't do a lot for me. 12 hours from waters breaking until birth in a MLU which was fab. No stitches or anything. The midwives were great and just let me get on with it. I just wondered did anyone have a simple straight forward labour but a difficult second one?

I had an easy first birth and the second was so easy I barely noticed - honest! Woke up at 2.45, rang paramedics, felt a head, ds born at 3.20 6 mins after they arrived. It was fab!

Yep my first was a pretty easy 3 and half hour labour, only gas and air and a beautiful baby boy. Second was twice as easy, just over an hours labour and no pain relief at all, she was desperate to make her appearance the midwife didn't even have her gloves on!

Thanks for the replies guys, I think sometimes have I lulled myself into a false sense of security?! Reading what you have both said maybe not!

first was easy- induced, mild pain ovenight and then waters broke 11.30 and DD born 13.09 second stage was very quick gas and air only (one stitch). Second was even easier- mild pains at home from 1300 and went in when 10 mins apart (approx 16.30). Arrived midwifery led unit 1700 and delivered 1745!! one stitch again. No pain relief at all with DS 2 as my sister had bragged about having 2 paracetamol only with her DS 2 so i had to out do her!!!

Lurking, I had a 3 hour labour with dd, I'm worried I'm not going to get to hospital this time but I have GD so i'm not allowed a home birth in case baby or I have blood sugar problems.

PogoBob · 17/06/2012 23:04

Nothing to add, just want to mark my place as DD was a quick and easy birth and currently pregnant with DC2.

Homebirth not practical and live in the middle of nowhere, difficult to find if you don't know where it is so don't ancy chances for ambulance, due 28th December easy to get snowed in here and we're about 30 - 40 minutes from the hospital!

Next door neighbour is a vet though so could always call on him I suppose Grin

Much easier for me but it took the same amount of time the second time around.

This time though it was really instinctive, I wasn't at all scared and I think that made it less painful. I survived with just TENS until 9cm when I succumbed to some gas and air. Everything was easier, I recovered very quickly and breastfeeding just happened (last time it seemed to take forever and DD1 took ages to latch properly).

Good luck all!
