Anyone awake? Could this have been my waters?

I am 35+4 today. At doctors on Wednesday I was 2cm dilated and baby fully engaged. They said did not by any means suggest that baby was imminent.

I was just sitting on the toilet and as I wiped, I definitely felt something very warm trickle out - it was a little stronger than a trickle but not enough to be called a gush. I put my finger just to the entrance of my vagina (sorry way TMI!) and it did it again, strange sensation. I sat there another full 10 mins but nothing else.

I've now gotten up and walked around a bit and don't feel anything else yet. Could that have been amniotic fluid????

Could have been or could have been urine. Warm. Pop a pad on and check. Waters should be straw like and smell slightly sweet. Also heavy watery discharge not incommon in late pg

SweetLikeChocolate · 16/06/2012 00:08

It could be. Put a sanitary towel in your pants and go to bed. Chill. In an hour the pad should be soaked if it is your waters. Even if the baby's head is down and blocking the flow due to position, enough should escape to soak a pad. Especially if you lay down a d reduce pressure of the head.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/06/2012 00:08

It might have been. It might have been a pocket of wee that was trapped in your bladder by baby's head squishing your bladder. How far was your finger into your vagina? High enough for it to have definetly come from inside your vagina, or is it possible it was from your uretha?

Anyway, put a pad on. Monitor any further loss. If its your waters you'll get more.

not much help sorry. with ds my waters gushed none stop but with dd1 i didnt even know theyd gone,so gradual. wear a pad and see if you have any other symptoms. fingers crossed for you.

Fishpond · 16/06/2012 00:17

Ok so it would definitely keep coming within a certain time period? When do you think it's safe to say it wasn't anything?

Have a pad on, is it better to lie or stand? It's only 6pm here (America) so can't go to bed properly but can lie down!

Just go about your business as normal. It will become Apparantly if waters are leaking

chuckeyegg · 16/06/2012 00:25

Standing can cause the babys head to plug the leak so probably better to lie down.

Good luck x

chuckeyegg · 16/06/2012 00:28

sorry crossed post. Blush

Fishpond · 16/06/2012 00:30

At your gestation, if you really start to think could be fluid best to get checked. Will pop back in morning to see how you are x

Jac1978 · 16/06/2012 05:31

Could well be, if it continues and/or you get any pain phone the maternity ward at your hospital and they will probably want you to come in. I had exactly the same thing and got pains soon after then six hours later I'd given birth! Not saying you will do but it is always best to get checked out if you're not sure

RosemaryandThyme · 16/06/2012 05:52

Good luck Fishpond !

Do get to the doctors today, if it is waters you have 24 hours to deliver so you'll definately need to know for sure.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 16/06/2012 08:38

It may, of course, be the hind waters.

Maiziemonkey · 16/06/2012 08:47

Hiya Fish how are you now? Maybe give your midwife a call and tell her about it so she can assess- they might want to check you out.Smile

lia66 · 16/06/2012 08:54

Rosemary not necessarily, waters can reseal if it's only a trickle and replenish all the time. Op is not quite 36 wks so hcp's would possible prefer if they can help her hang on a bit.

If you are still trickling today op, give mw a call and they'll probably want you to pop in, not sure how they play it in the states but here mw would do spec exam to confirm. They won't want to do ve in case it in as you are more at risk of infection after prom.

Let us know how you get on today

Bibs123 · 16/06/2012 08:55

When my waters went I was on the sofa and it felt like i had just started bleeding or a bit of wee had just come out! then when I was walking around it felt like I kept wetting myself, it smelt very sweet just like straw. I would phone the triage just in case, they might get you to go in to check you over X

misslinnet · 16/06/2012 11:10

Fishpond, if you think your waters may have broken, call the midwife / hospital and get it checked out, as you're at higher risk of infection after waters have broken.

RosemaryandThyme is not necessarily correct - my waters broke at 33 weeks, and I was told that the hospital would not induce labour before 37 weeks unless I was showing signs of infection, as baby's lungs aren't fully developed before then.

duchesse · 16/06/2012 11:25

Ooh, Fishpond, exciting! It's best to get checked out as if there's any chance of the baby coming early, they may well want to give you steroids to mature the baby's lungs.

Fishpond · 16/06/2012 14:13

Ooh sorry thought I had updated this last night. It wasn't my waters but wasnt wee either. They said that unhelpfully, discharge becomes very watery at this stage in pregnancy, great! Then told me to return if I had any more leakage. Hmm

Wasn't there too long and now back home to wait out the last 9 days before his planned arrival Grin
