Lochia still red at 2 weeks - should I be concerned?

Baby is 2 weeks old and I still can't go to the toilet without wiping lots of blood away, am far from soaking pads but the blood is red again rather than browny coloured (which it was at the end of the first week.) I went for a whole day with nothing a couple of days ago but now it seems to have increased again. Should I be concerned?

This seems normal to me. I'm sure I bled for much longer than that - I don't think you need to be worried. You have 9 months worth of menstrual blood to get rid of!

I'm experiencing very similar pattern & I'm 18 days post delivery. I'll go a day or two of no bleeding then it starts again, although not bright red any more, it's a rusty brown colour, when I bleed it's heavy. I mentioned to the midwife I saw a week ago & she said it was very normal pattern, especially when breast feeding. I have been trying to think back to when my son was born & what the bleeding was like then but I just can't remember whether it was similar or not.

If it's bright red and suddenly increased in volume, get it checked out. This happened to me at about 2 weeks after birth, and I phoned labour ward. Turned out I had an infection in my womb, which needed treatment with anti biotics.

Hi. I think it's probably normal BUT with my second it stayed red and heavy for almost 2 weeks and then I passed a huge piece of placenta (5 inches) and a load of membrane, then it practically stopped. I rang labour ward and showed ommunity midwife and they did not seem interested! I did have to have 2 injections to deliver the placenta as it would not budge plus my uterus did not seem to go down much until I passed it. I also felt really rubbish but put it down to other things. Now I look back I wish I'd insisted on a proper check up and I guess I was lucky I passed the retained pieces without incident. If it happened again I would ask a bit more instantly I think.

'insistently' that should read!

Yes, I phoned labour ward because I suddenly felt really awful - not sure if I could make it down the stairs etc. The antibiotics took a few days to kick in, but worked (thank God).
