Hi there,

I'm by no means definite for a ELCS but it is looking increasingly likely due to various reasons. To be honest I don't really mind - I just want to get the baby out as safely as possible and I will do what is advised by my consultant.

I've been reading around vaginal birth - hypnobirthing, Ina May Gaskin and a handful of others but now want to read up on CS just in case that is indeed the route I have to go down. I have read on mn people swearing by a great book but I can't remember what is was!

Have just put 'Strategies for the C-Section Mom: A Complete Fitness, Nutrition, and Lifestyle Guide' into my Amazon basket as, as a pre-pregnancy gym fan, I like the idea of focusing on recovery and fitness afterwards, but is there anything else I should be adding to this?

Caesarean Birth: A Positive Approach to Preparation and Recovery by Leigh East has been recommended by a few ladies on here.

That's the one I was looking for I think, thanks! Will invest in both of these and see how I get on. I just like reading up on these things, am only 34 weeks so there might be a chance things change but the consultant says it is looking doubtful.

If I may, as co-author of the book, also suggest the new title "Choosing Cesarean, A Natural Birth Plan".
It includes tips on preparing for and recovering from a planned c-section, plus birth stories, a whole chapter on risks, and a chapter on what happens on the day of surgery, minute by minute.
With best wishes for your birth, whatever you and your consultant decide.

Wow - that sounds great! You may indeed. I will check it out. And well done for the book writing. I am actually a writer/journo too so duly impressed.

Thanks Billy I have been reading everything I find online avidly. I am on the autoimmune threads on BC for recurrent miscarriage but good thinking about the finding ones on CS too.

I second the Leigh East one (Caesarean Birth: A Positive Approach to Preparation and Recovery), have been recommending it everywhere and to everyone! Very impressed with it.

I would recommend reading both Caesarean Birth; a positive approach by Leigh East and Pauline Hull/Dr Magnus Murphy's book called 'Choosing Caesarean A natural Birth Plan'.

They are both on Amazon, I have read both of them and they are both excellent and well researched.
