Boots Maternity TENS unit

I'm not sure if TENS will work for me, but I've decided to try it as I might not have access to a birthpool during labour and that had been my main plan for pain management. I want to remain mobile during labour if at all possible and as I am a control freak who doesn't even get drunk I don't like the idea of drugs during labour that might make me feel out of it when shortly [optimistic for a short labour emoticon] I'll be needing to care for an infant. I haven't ruled out gas and air, but as some folk describe it as giving a drunk feeling, I'm quite prepared for it to be something that doesn't suit me.

So TENS sounds like something useful to have in my repetoire of painrelief/distraction techniques especially as there may be a 1 hour journey into hospital there somewhere with no other options except for a relaxation cd/mp3.

Anyway, I was wondering what to look for in a TENS machine and a few very old threads on here suggested a 'boost' button for contractions is useful.

Does the Boots Maternity TENS unit have a boost button? If it doesn't, do you think a boost button is necessary?

There are some other brands of TENS machines available from Boots online (which is probably the easiest place for me to buy from as I already have an account and they have a discount at the moment), do you have any preferences for a different brand? Are they really that different from one another?

Thanks xx

Make sure it has a boost button for contractions. I used Elle TENS both times; second time it was all I had. It's also worth checking out ebay.
