40weeks 3 days, been offered induction

Hi all,

First time I've posted on here! I'm 40 weeks and 3 days. I live in holland so things are different here. With my first I had a quick home birth at 40weeks and 4 days. This time round has not been so easy!
Three weeks ago I started to get back problems. So bad all I can do is lie down and the odd walk. I was given two nights in hospital with pain killers to sleep through. Two weeks ago at 38 weeks they offered induction as I was in so much pain. I turned it down as I wanted to try and let baby come! Two weeks later and really now going mad from pain!
Midwife coming in a bit to visit and discuss a plan. I think I am going to accept induction. It will probably be planned for Wednesday/Thursday.
I feel like I am giving in though! On the other had I know I need energy for new born and at the moment I feel like I am heading for depression before he/she arrives!

What are your thoughts? Would you accept induction?

Thanks

I am in the uk, so this may not be relevant.

I went quite overdue 40+ 11. I was told they only "let" you go to 40 + 14 and they booked me an induction for this date. I asked about refusing an induction and having additional monitoring instead.

I was told that if I had refused the induction then I would automatically become a high risk pregnancy which would mean no water birth, continuous fetal monitoring during labour etc etc

I wanted to refuse induction because I was induced and my mum had a hell of a time. Induction can lead to a cascade of intervention - more painful contractions, leading to epidural, leading to bed bound, leading to ventouse/forceps/CS etc

Good luck in whatever you decide! Remember the important outcome is healthy you, healthy baby :-)

I was induced at 40+10, and the midwife reckoned the placenta was a day or 2 away from failing, and we'd have lost ds.
Please don't see it as 'giving in', the aim is for you to deliver your baby safely, so I'd not hold back in being induced, I've yet to see anyne handing out the medals in the delivery suite. Good luck whatever you choose to do.

I was induced at 40+5, it really wasn't what I had hoped for, but they thought there may be issues with the baby. I thought about each decision I had to make along the way quite rationally, but in the end just went with my gut instinct, and it turned out to be an ok experience.

Your mental and physical health is important and taking an induction appointment isn't giving in. It's also going to be a couple of days away so you still may go into labour, it may even give you the end in sight you need to prompt your body into action (don't get your hopes up on that one though Smile).

I'd probably accept the appointment, but with the view that if for any reason I felt like the wrong choice I could change my mind.

Good luck, whatever you decide it won't be long now.

Thank you ladies for your supportive words. Midwife will be here soon. She helPed assist in my daughters labour so I know I can trust her advice. The issue is there is no urgent health reason to have induction other than my mental health and the pain i am in. I need to switch in my head that these are important reasons just as any other! I'll get induction booked and yes the 'end in sight' might help body to relax I guess!

I think you should definitely go for it if you are in that much pain - sounds like you have been so brave over the last few weeks but enough is enough! You won't even worry about any of this once the baby is here. Good luck x

I was about to say go for the induction but I'm too late!

Good luck and enjoy the lack of pain when the baby arrives :)
