Positive induction stories?

Hi, I might have to be induced on Saturday if things don't happen before. This is my third baby and the two others were born naturally and quickly. I am worried it will be different this time if I have to be induced, so would like to hear positive induction stories to go to hospital in a good frame of mind. Thanks!

Hi mosaica

If your first two were born quickly, there is not reason why this one shouldn't be.

I have had clients who have gone in for induction and things have begun rather quickly after the gel. They laboured on gas n air and did very well. It is not automatic that you will need an epidural with an induction. If this baby is fast like the first two, it is likely that you will feel the pain more intensely, so do remember to check before going for the epi. It might be that you don't have enough time.

Try to be sure to eat and drink and move around freely. I hope the baby beats the induction. I don't know the reasons for your induction, but whatever you decide, I hope it's a lovely birth.

Hi Smile I've had two very positive inductions, and it's likely I'll be having another this time around.
My first I was induced at 39 weeks, I had my first pessary at 7pm on the Monday, and another at 7am the following day, these didn't seem to do anything, I had another at 12 and was sent for a walk and to have some lunch. Got back to the ward about 1.30 with back ache so they ran me a bath. Shortly after my waters broke so was checked and already at 4cm so was sent to the delivery suit. Got there and within about 20minutes was feeling the urge to push, so was checked and was at 10cm! Unfortunately the pushing stage wasn't quite as easy and I was pushing for two hours, and ended up needed ventouse assistance, but once they put the cap on he was out within 1 push, born at 5pm
My second was induced at 38 weeks and pretty much the same story, just took a couple more pessaries before I got going. I was started at 9am Tuesday morning, had my last pessary at 3pm on the Wednesday, labor started about 4ish again with just backache, so had a shower, got out and my waters broke, all over the floor in front of the whole ward Blush so was sent to Delivery, got there and was practically pushing before I got in the room, DD was born in two pushes at 5.38pm Smile
I'm hoping this next one goes just as smoothly. My only issues were with a tear after DC2, which was agony while they stitched, but got to cuddle my baby while they did it so that made up for it!

I was induced due to high BP. Only 4 days early. I went in on Sun, had pessary at 2pm then one at 8am then checked at 6pm mon night should have been 2pm but wars hectic. I was 4-5 cm and moved to labour ward at 8pm. Left for a few hours and used tens, then waters were broken for me at 11pm and I was hooked up to synto drip. Hard and fast contractions which they called a precipitate labour as baby was born just after 4am on the tues. Had an episotomy and gas and air.no other pain relief.

Also you don't have to be induced if you don't want to be. If ur previous 2 happened naturally and you think this one might do to but just needs a little extra time u can hold on Smile

I was induced both times at 40wks for medical reasons. Both times I was given the pessary thing at about 4pm and then had grumbly period-like pain from about midnight and recognisable contractions started about 4am. Each birth then went slightly differently after this point.

With DS the contractions carried on getting gradually stronger over the course of the morning, I got put on a syntocin drip at lunchtime, pethedine at 5pm, started pushing and he arrived at 6pm.

DD was in more of a hurry to arrive, my contractions suddenly went from 0-60mph at about 5.30am and she arrived at 100mph at 7am.

I have no non-induced birth to compare them to, but I felt both births were fine. Good luck!

i was induced for 2nd time at 42 wks not much pain all day then at 10pm it started and ds2 was born at 12 23am, without any pain relief and about 30min in the bath which was lovely and it really did ease the pain, great experience
good luck

I was induced with DC2, my DS, 8 weeks ago. He was two weeks overdue and I'd had a sweep which did nothing, despite a favourable cervix etc. I was nervous about a medical induction and wanted to keep things as natural as possible and my midwife was brilliant with this. She broke my waters for me in hospital and gave me another (rather firm and uncomfortable sweep) and left me for an hour. Things started to get going so she brought me a footspa with oils in it to stimulate contractions (something I'd never considered, but it was quite nice). My Waters were broken at 10:05 and DS arrived at 14:19. It was a very intense labour compared to my DDs (10 hours of active labour) and I did get a little scared at how quickly the contractions got painful, but I knew I'd done this before and so understood more of what was going on. DS was 9lbs 12 and I gave birth using just gas and air.

Good luck! My DHs birthday is Saturday, so its a great day to be born Grin

I'm in the process of being induced, they've put the pessary in, they're leaving it for 24 hours. Really keen to avoid a drip so hope it does something. Would love a water birth. I will be watching this with interest for some more positive experiences to cling to!
