Which birthpool?

Hi

I'm considering a home water birth for this baby following a hospital water birth. Can't afford to hire a hot tub type pool so planning on buying an inflatable one. It's hard to tell which to go for eg la bassine or birth pool in a box.

Which would you recommend?
Why did you choose it?
Where did you buy?
Did you buy any accessories?

Also what lamp did you buy (for stitches if needed)

Thanks

I used La Bassine and it was great (I used it 3 times)

I am 5'10" and it was deep enough for me to be on my knees with my arms draped over the edge, and with my bum still well under the water

That's really helpful thanks. I'm 5ft 10 too (and not quite 14 weeks!) but like to plan!

Birth pool in a box Eco regular size...I'm 6ft and had tons of room. I've borrowed one again for baby number 2 but would have bought one from ebay and a new liner. Quite a few sell without having been used.

Dont forget pump for filling and emptying!

I remember the feeling getting in it....Bliss!

Lamp...Angle poise desklamp we happened to have one. I'm sure you can get a cheap one in Ikea or Amazon.

My midwife gave me a great tip - dont buy maternity mats for leaks buy puppy training pads instead. They are a third of the price!

Aqua born - they had a deal on so with all the kit and extras/shipping it was cheaper than the others. Dimension wise there wasn't much difference with BPIAB. It has an inflatable floor which from experience is essential, but it wasn't as thick on the floor as the Lay-Z-spa I hired for another birth - heated inflatable pool, that was fantastic.

I got a La Bassine from the Made in Water site - because it was recommended on MN, mainly. I wasn't disappointed - it was lovely and big, with a comfy padded floor. Got the liner, electric pump and a new hose. Also got a cheap bath thermometer from Mothercare but that broke within a few minutes - luckily mw had one.

Lamp - I didn't even think of getting one! In the event I had to transfer after the birth so my stitches were done in hospital.

Birth pool in a box regular.

Fabulous. Loads of room. Comfy floor. Inflates quickly. Came with most of the kit, bought a submersible pump to empty it from eBay for a tenner.

You don't need a food grade hose to fill it, a brand new garden hose is absolutely fine, and get a cheap electric pump to inflate it. You don't need to spend £ to buy the proper pack from BPIB.

Or just buy a second hand one with everything from eBay Grin

Oh and you don't need a thermometer or for the water to be a certain temp as long as its comfy. The 'ideal' temp is based on the fear that a baby may gasp underwater if it's too cool, but research in Germany found no cases of this happening.

I stuck my hand in and ordered more cold water until it was right for me. Didn't have a thermometer at all.
