Did anyone else experience shivering?

When contractions really got going I started to shiver uncontrollably. Is this usual? The nurses kept asking me if I was cold and were acting like they've never seen the like before. It stopped as soon as I had the epidural but started again when the epi wore off.

Anyone else?

Wow, I remember this in the early stages of labour, shivering and puking, what fun

Yes, due to shock. I had a big fluffy dressing gown which I put over me in the "cold" stages & DP was on standby with a flannel & ice for the "hot" stages. He was also holding bags for me to be sick in. As soon as DS was born, I had most of a big bag of jelly babies and a tea with three sugars & began to come back to normal. Shock & G&A is not a good combination but the MW were really relaxed about it which meant I was too.

I has it with bothh DD's afterwards, the MW said I was in shock. Not sure if I had it with DS, I was off my tits on pethadine at the time so I could have had it. My births ere all very quick, apparently that could have had something to do with it x

treefumaster - I have shivering/freezing cold after GA - I always need 25 blankets (or so it seems!) in recovery - I have never had a c-section though these have been after other ops for non-baby related doings!

I had it defintiely with DC2, was desperate to get into the birthing pool to warm me up! Wasn't long before he arrived...and the water was still a bit warm for him, DH had to shower him with cold water from the tap as he was coming out...

I was shivering after DS was born. It was a bit awkward as the registrar was stitching my tear up at the time. But her and the midwife didn't seem at all surprised about the shivering.

It happened to me after an ELCS. Shook really violently and couldn't even speak. A lovely midwife gave me a cup of hot sugary tea which seemed to do the trick, assumed it was shock too..

After both births I was put under a big kind of duvet it was automatic ( in Italy). They said it was normal to shiver , a kind of shock.

Yup! My legs were shaking uncontrollably during the pushing stage. My mum held one and DP the other as they were going crazy! Apparently it's adrenaline & totally normal - really strange feeling hey!
