Third or fourth births? Were they quick?

my first was very quick ! I literally got into the delivery suite was given a room gas and air chucked in my face for use (made me v sick) next thing was get on the bed we need to examine you then it was time to push! I was terrified ! I obv must have been able to control my contractions for a while at home as they had started at 3 am and I didn't go into hosp until about 6 she was born at 6.50! With my second unusually it seemed like a longer labour ? Went in at 2am was only 5 cm so decided to go back home (live 5 mins away) then by half 5 was ready to go back although this time I felt much more relaxed she wasn't actually born until 9am .

I was just wondering if my third may be pretty quick and will I make it to the hospital? I also have to
Sort out the other 2 DC's so news time for my mum to get a cab to mine about a 10 min journey then me and DP can walk to hosp as he doesn't drive and dnt think it's safe for me? We live across the road from the hospital!

You can always call an ambulance if you can't walk. That's what they're there for. Might be worth talking to the antenatal unit to see what they suggest.
Get a neighbour to hold the fort until your mum arrives so there's no reason for a delay.

My 3rd was quick compared to my others, and friends who've had three have also been extremely quick - two at home and one almost in the car on the way there. Don't mean to worry you! :o

would you think about a homebirth? i would be considering it if i were you.

yes third births can be quic, but they can also be unpredictable i was told, my 3rd birth was quick ie 3hrs once it got going, but very stop start in the lead up to it.

then no 4 took just under 1hr! so very quick. i was in hospital to be induced as i was overdue with all of them, so getting to hospital wasnt an issue for me.

you can alsways call an ambulance yes, or your dp could drive you? but it may be worth asking your midwife about home birth, i am wondering why they havent suggested it to you tbh!

and yes try and get a neighbour to watch little ones, or even take them with you and get your mum to get them from the hospital if you ahve to!

I had dd2 very quickly and what stressed me out most was getting to the hospital!

I am def going to consider a home birth for dc3, perhaps a home water birth

DD3 was 45 mins from pop of waters to baby she was a homebirth.

DS was an induction in hospital due to SPD and previous fast labours, I didn't want to go into labour at home with no DP or childcare for the girls. He was induced on his due date went into labour an hour after the pessary, 2 hour labour which wasn't bad at all compared to the girls.

Thanks for your replies! My midwife is rubbish ! Plurgh won't go into that again as it's on the midwife appointments thread in pregnancy! I don't really want a home birth as our houses are v v close together ! We can even hear next doors tv! Plus Walls are paper thin :/ my dp doesn't drive :( I will speak to midwife if I see her long enough to get a chance to ask!

Ignore the mw then and just ask the hospital what they would recommend in terms of calling out an ambulance in such a situation.

Sarahmarie2505 · 30/05/2012 13:11

Ok shall I just ring delivery suite ?

How pg are you now? I would pop over there as it's only over the road, then you can chat with them about what they suggest and talk through your concerns.

I'm 32 weeks on Saturday . Yea that's a good idea ! I just pop over there !
